Base Class: Barbarian
Those who choose this path are meant to defend, to protect. They charge in first, ready for attacks and never flinching. They tank hits for their allies, never allowing a friend to be injured. They can even develop magic and techniques used for the guarding of others. A defender's duty is to protect their allies and stand their ground, never flinching in their quest to protect.
Protector's Soul
at 3rd level when you choose this path, you become a guardian. Your mind, body, and spirit adapt to your choices, granting you new abilities. You gain the defense fighting style, but it instead activates when you are not wearing any armor. You gain the ability to cast the Shield spell three times per long rest, and you can target any creature within 30ft of you beside yourself.
Defensive Stance
At 6th level, you learn to take a stance that increases the damage you take. As a bonus action, you can take a defensive stance. While you are in a defensive stance, you gain resistance to all piercing, slashing, bludgeoning, fire, cold, force, poison, acid and lightning damage. The defensive stance lasts until you move or take the attack action.
Toughened Resolve
At 10th level, you have taken so many hits that you have learned how to take them in a way that minimizes damage. As a reaction, you can expend a hit die to roll a d20. You add your proficiency bonus, strength modifier, and your constitution modifier. If you roll higher than the attack roll, you can roll a number of d10 equal to half your level + your constitution modifier. You reduce the damage by the number rolled.
Defender's Warding Bond
When you reach 14th level, you are so tough that almost nothing can hurt you. You gain resistance to all magical damage and resistance to weapon attacks. You have advantage against all conditions except grappled, restrained, and blinded. When you use Defensive Stance, you also gain a +2 to AC. When you use Toughened resolve, you add double your barbarian level to the end total.
