Base Class: Sorcerer
Animancy Is an extremely new form of magic that, so far, only those who can tap directly into the magical weave of the world can practice. Inserting themselves past the body and mind of their target, these mages have the ability to play directly with the soul.
Being a new and ultimately unknown magical practice, those who follow the path are often watched closely by high ranking authorities and their progress strictly monitored. Most arcanists and Faith's believe that toying with the soul is like that of manipulating the body in darker ways. Being in that kind set, Animancy has been deemed the sister to Necromancy and is frowned upon by many Faiths, but studied closely by the arcane to truely push it's true potential.
Soul Sight
At 1st level, the sorcerer gains the ability to see and communicate with the soul of creatures that have departed within the past hour. The soul can only communicate back to the sorcerer if they had the ability to speak and understand the language in life.
At level 6, the Sorcerer is able to speak with the soul that has departed within the last day. At 14 they can speak with any soul no matter the language and at 18, they can speak with any soul that has not past on, no matter how long ago they died. This includes ghosts, wraiths, spectators or any othe spectral undead.
This ability does not work on creatures who do not have a soul, i.e. zombies, skeletons, etc.
Soul Rend
Starting at 6th level, you gain the ability to use an action to assert yourself against a creatures soul once per short rest. An unwilling creature being targeted by one of these effects must make a Constitution saving throw to avoid the effects.
- Control the actions of the target for 1 hour as long as concentration is maintained. The effected creature is able to make another saving throw if they take damage.
- Being an hour long process of removing and/or transferring the soul into a container powerful and durable enough to hold the power of a soul without shattering. (If the container is damaged in this process, the soul is returned to the body)
- Deal immediately 3d8 + Cha Mod points of raq damage directly to the target and lowering their max Hit Point value by that much. (This effect increases 1d8 at levels 10, 14 & 18)
- Cause the target to suffer the condotion of either +1 exaustion, stun, fright, paralysis or prone.
Willing creatures need not make a saving throw against the effects.
Hold Soul
At 14th level, you are able to force the soul of yourself or a target to stay within it's body. Once per day, Using an action you are able to manipulate the soul of yourself or one creature within 30 feet, giving the chosen target advantage on death saving throws and lowing the success roll to 9 rather than 10 for 1 hour.
Immortal Soul
At 18th level, you gain complete control and focus of your soul and gain the following benifiets.
- Your soul is immune to any unwilling manipulation or alteration
- 1 hour after death, If your body still exsists on the same plane, you can choose to return to it once per year
- If you die, no matter the means, you can choose to either retain your memories in your next life or start fresh with no memories. (Your class must be sorcerer to be able to use Animancy in the next life)

Posted Dec 18, 2020Soul Rend seems a bit too overpowered, however in the campaign I'm in, it's pretty much needed.
I suggest that Animancer has a different version, more specifically, a more balanced version for normal campaigns.
I like this subclass, but yeah..
