Base Class: Sorcerer
Boiling in your blood and tugging at your very soul is the drive to be truly great! When called to action, an adventurous magic pushes you on. Magic however was only one part, the blade the other. While your magic may be from blood or circumstance, true greatness was always inherited. However you gained your powers is inconsequential, because how you use them is innate.
The Ancestral Spellsword Sorcerer derives his true power not from providence, but from family. You have inherited the will and abilities of a person so great, it dares to define you.
Ancestral Legacy
At 1st level, your connection to your great forebear grants you an affinity to the blade. You gain proficiency with the longsword and shortsword.
If you’re proficient with a simple or martial melee weapon, you can use it as a spellcasting focus for your sorcerer spells.
Martial Magics
At 1st level you can instill your attacks with burning magical essence or bolster your defenses with Arcane power. On your turn you can pick one effect to happen:
Burning Essence. When you make a weapon attack you can add 1d4 to damage rolls made with that weapon until the start of your next turn.
Arcane Defense. At the end of your turn you can add 1d4 to your AC until the end of your next turn.
You can use your Martial Magics equal to 1 + your Charisma modifier. Once you exhaust all your uses of this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
Blade Spell
Starting at 6th level, your sword attacks invoke additional magic. When you use the Attack action, you can cast a cantrip which would normally take an action as a bonus action.
Martial Arcanium
At 14th level, you can channel your arcane energy directly into your fighting style. Once per round on your turn, you can use one of the following new magical augments:
Vanishing Steps. Moving quicker than the eye, your magic allows you to step on air itself to re-position yourself. On your turn when you cast a spell as a bonus action you can spend 3 sorcery points to take the disengage action and gain a 15ft flying speed until the end of your next turn.
Arcane Strikes. Residual arcane energy crackles from your blade and lashes out against your foes. When you use your martial magics, you can use 2 sorcery points at the end of your turn to do 4d6 force damage to one creature that took damage from your weapon attacks this turn.
Empowering Ward. Ethereal energies coalesce at your will when using a defensive spell. Whenever you cast a spell as a reaction, you can spend 1 sorcery point to gain 1d8 temporary hit points for 1 minute. You gain an additional 1d8 of hit points per level of the spell used.
Ancient Awakening
Beginning at 18th level, the differences between your Ancestor and you begin to shrink.
Blood Trait. A permanent aspect of your arcane birthright that you choose manifests it self, reminding everyone who's blood you carry. Alternatively you can roll on the table for one of the following effects.
| d4 | Manifested Ancestral Trait |
|---|---|
| 1 | Your hair turns silvery and ripples in an out of the ethereal plane. |
| 2 | Your eyes become dull and muted until you channel your magic, then flash pure white and lingering that way for hours. |
| 3 | You appear in your prime and no longer show effects of aging. |
| 4 | You grow noticeably taller and your muscles more defined and your voice now echoes with gravitas. (height increase does not change size category) |
Awakened Prowess. Once per day, you can use your action to expend 10 sorcery points temporarily increasing your Strength, Dexterity or Constitution score by 1d8 to a maximum of 28 for 1 hour.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
