Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

Kiaransalee was a drow lesser deity in the pantheon of the drow (The Dark Seldarine). She was also known as the Lady of the Dead, The Revenancer or The Vengeful Banshee.

Her devoted followers, the chosen few who were trusted to do her bidding, executed her vengeance upon all who met her gaze with exacting precision and brutality. They devoted their lives, sometimes in self-sacrifice, in order to earn her favor. The few among her cadre who were less arcanely inclined naturally took to the blade.

You are one of the chosen few.

Notes from the author:

Inspiration for this Homebrew class was taken from existing Rogue archetypes such as the Assassin and Swashbuckler as well as other poison-based homebrew classes.

Vision for this class is to make a single class that scales in power (no multiclassing required). It should feel rewarding to plan ahead, research your upcoming enemies and encounters, craft poisons that best suit the circumstances, and get the most enjoyment out of the role of the party's hitman.

Balance comes with advanced planning of your situations to maximize effectiveness, a smaller hit die if you abstain from multi-classing, and taking the extra time and action economy to hide from your opponents. Crafting poisons can also be fairly expensive so be prepared to spend the gold!

Lastly, this build was created for an upcoming campaign and is most definitely subject to being revised for balance along the adventure.  If you have any constructive feedback please leave it in the comments below and I'll take it into consideration!

Bonus Proficiencies

When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with the Disguise Kit and the Poisoner's Kit.

Master Planning

I've thought this through a thousand times, gone through the motions, and know exactly when and where to strike. It's all come down to this moment.

"My Lady demands your life. I have come to collect."

Starting at 3rd level:

Your training and experience allows you to position yourself better in combat. You can give yourself a bonus to your Initiative rolls equal to your Wisdom modifier.

You also gain an additional way to use your Sneak Attack; you don’t need advantage on the attack roll to use your Sneak Attack against a creature if you are within 5 feet of it, no other creatures are within 5 feet of you, and you don’t have disadvantage on the attack roll. All the other rules for Sneak Attack still apply to you.

The Lady's Deadly Gifts

"You don't live in the Underdark without learning a few tricks"

Starting at 9th level:

  • You gain Expertise in using a Poisoner's Kit
  • You gain resistance against Poison damage and advantage on saving throws against the Poisoned condition
  • You can use the bonus action granted by your Cunning Action to apply poisons to weapons, items, yourself, or your unarmed attacks.
  • Once per long rest, you can also use an action to identify characteristics of a poison, and craft an antidote. Any antidote created in this way acts like the spell lesser restoration.

At higher levels you learn to master blending toxins into vile concoctions even the most hearty of foes cannot resist:

  • At 13th Level: Creatures with resistance to poison damage or the poisoned condition lose that resistance when you hit them with a poisoned weapon.
  • At 17th Level: Creatures with immunity to poison damage or the poisoned condition lose their immunity when you hit them with a poisoned weapon and instead gain resistance.

Coup de Grâce

"They should've never taken their eyes off of me..."

Starting at 13th Level:

When you make a melee attack with a finesse weapon that you are proficient with against a poisoned creature you are hidden from, your melee weapon attacks that hit are automatically critical hits.

Requires:

  • A melee attack that hits with a weapon with the finesse property.
  • The target must be poisoned.
  • You must be hidden from your target.

Death Strike

"I could kill you with a flick of my wrist and you would never see it coming."

Starting at 17th level:

You become a master of instant death. When you attack and hit a creature that is surprised, it must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + your Dexterity modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save, double the damage of your attack against the creature.
