Base Class: Barbarian
Some barbarians have found an immediate connection to nature in their connection with their bodies and the beasts of the world. The Path of the Tattooed Warrior is for those barbarians who have a connection to nature and to the tattoos that cover their bodies. Most of these barbarians live in solitude, having their beasts be their clan, though having a Tattooed Warrior is not unheard of in a clan.
Bonus Proficiency
You gain proficiency in Animal Handling at level 3 if you don't already have it.
Summoning
When starting this path at level 3, you find you have a connection to the beasts of the world. As a 1 minute ritual, you can place your hand on a beast that is not hostile towards you and that is no larger than one size larger than you (if you are Medium it can’t be larger than Large, if you are Small, it can’t be larger than Medium) and make a Wisdom (Animal Handling) check with the DC being 10 + the CR rounded down of the beast. On a success, the beast is absorbed into you and appears as a tattoo on your body in a place of your choosing. While raging, you can summon one beast from your skin to help you in combat. As a bonus action, your summoned beast can make one attack action as you command it. Your summoned beast gets all the effects of the rage. When the creature drops to zero hit points, it is absorbed back into your skin. If your rage ends by being knocked unconscious or any other premature way, the summoned beast is absorbed back into your skin. If you choose to end your rage, you can keep your summoned creature summoned for up to one hour. If you rage again, the beast is brought back to your skin.
Once you summon a beast, you cannot summon it again until you’ve taken a long rest.
Improved Summonings
Starting at level 6, you gain the following abilities:
- You can now absorb monstrosities into your skin as a tattoo. The monstrosity, however, must be have a CR half your level or lower (rounded up).
- If your summoned creature has a multiattack action, it can take that instead of the single attack action.
- Once per longrest, you can summon a creature with a CR 1 / 4 or lower without being in a rage.
Animal Instinct
At level 10, you can choose one ability of a beast or monstrosity that you have tattooed on you to apply to yourself. For example, if you have a boar, you can choose to acquire Charge or Relentless. You can choose to change this ability after a short or long rest.
Revenge
At level 14, if your beast or monstrosity is killed by an enemy within 30 feet of you, you can use your reaction to move to the enemy and take a full round of attacks against the enemy.
