Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Way of Fate learn to use their ki to attune to the mysterious threads of fate that bind life, destiny, and death. Their monastic orders are often connected to a deity that is intimately connected with fate, divination, or death, such as Savras, Kelemvor, or the Raven Queen.

Monks of this tradition often travel the world offering their services as mercenaries or sages. Superstitious types sometimes fear them because of their association with graveyards and funerals.

Foreshadowing

Starting at 3rd level when you choose this monastic tradition, you can use your meditation to see the threads of fate that bind you and those around you.

When you finish a short or long rest, you may spend a number of your ki points to foretell the future. For each ki point spent, roll a d20 and record the numbers rolled. You can replace any attack roll, saving throw, or ability check made by you or a creature that you can see with one of these foretelling rolls. You must choose to do so before the roll, and you can replace a roll in this way only once per turn.

Each foretelling roll can be used only once. Ki points that have been used in this manner cannot be restored until the foretelling roll has been used.

When you complete a long rest, you lose any unused foretelling rolls. Once you have made a number of foretelling rolls equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum 1), you must finish a long rest before you can use this feature again.

Guardian of the Infinite

At 6th level, your familiarity with the way the threads of fate cross the boundary of life and death allows you to use your ki to duplicate the effects of certain spells.

You can use 2 ki points to cast gentle repose or 3 ki points to cast speak with dead. For you, casting these spells requires no material components.

You also learn the spare the dying cantrip, if you do not know it already. For you, this spell has a range of 30 feet, and you can cast it as a bonus action.

Last Rites

At 6th level, you can expend all your ki energy in a single burst in order to bring back an ally from the jaws of death.

As an action, you can spend all of your remaining ki points to cast revivify. This requires no material components. This sacrifice takes an immense toll on your physical being, and you immediately suffer two levels of exhaustion.

Fate's Reprieve

At 11th level, you learn to pull on the threads of fate to keep yourself and your allies from death's door. As a reaction when you or a creature you can see within 30 feet of you suffers a critical hit, you can spend a ki point to turn that hit into a normal hit. Any effects triggered by a critical hit are canceled.

Twist of Fate

At 17th level, your mastery of the threads of fate enables you to turn your enemies' fortune back on themselves. When you use your Fate's Reprieve feature to cancel a critical hit, you may spend an additional two ki points to gain an additional foretelling die with a roll of 20.
