Base Class: Monk
Those who follow the Way of the Water Dragon are without equal in their uncanny ability to prepare and adapt to any threat. Those who follow this path allow their focus to ebb and flow like the tides, adapting to the world around them with the fluidity of a stream… and striking foes with the torrential force of a tidal wave. Grandmasters of the Way of the Water Dragon are legends of martial arts, capable of seamlessly shifting their battle tactics to adjust to different adversaries.
Grace of the Dragon
When you adopt this tradition at 3rd level, you gain a bonus to your initiative rolls equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1).
Additionally, you learn how to position yourself to be an adaptable warrior, constantly flowing between offense and defense. When dealing damage with your Flurry of Blows ability, you can choose to reduce the total damage dealt an amount equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1). If you do so, you gain a bonus to your AC equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1) until the start of your next turn.
Eye of the Dragon
At 6th level, you learn to constantly be aware of your surroundings. You gain proficiency in the Perception skill; double your proficiency bonus when making ability checks with this skill. Furthermore, you can spend 1 Ki Point to gain advantage on a Wisdom (Perception) check.
Preternatural Counter
Also at 6th level, your quick mind and study of your foe allows you to use their failure to your advantage. If a creature misses you with an attack, you can immediately use your reaction to make a melee attack against that creature.
Stance of the Dragon
At 11th level, your connection to the natural flow of things has compounded and folded in on itself, granting you the ability to enter various stances in the face of adversity. As a bonus action, you can spend 3 Ki Points to adopt one of four stances:
- Stance of the Clear Pond. You enter a zen state of tranquility, mirroring the stillness of a small pond or lake. While in this stance, you cannot be charmed, frightened, knocked prone, stunned, or surprised, and attacks rolls made against you are made at disadvantage. However, your movement speed is reduced to 0.
- Stance of the Rushing Stream. You strike with the swiftness of a roaring river. Whenever you take the Attack action on your turn, you can attack three times instead of twice.
- Stance of the Ocean Riptide. You strike with the disarming cunning of the sea's darkest undercurrents. When rolling damage for an Attack with a Monk weapon on a creature one size larger than you or smaller, you can force the target to make a Dexterity saving throw. If failed, the creature is knocked prone. You can only use this feature a maximum of twice per turn.
- Stance of the Crashing Wave. Your strikes are empowered with the force of the ocean itself. When dealing damage to targets using Monk weapons, you deal additional damage equal to your proficiency bonus.
Each stance lasts up to 30 seconds, or until you dismiss it as a bonus action. You can only assume one stance at a time. Maintaining a stance requires Concentration, as if concentrating on a spell. If you fail a Constitution saving throw to maintain Concentration on a stance, you can spend 1 Ki Point to succeed instead.
Soul of the Dragon
At 17th level, you become unparalleled in your ability to adapt to any fight. While in combat, you gain certain bonuses depending on which, if any, of the following scenarios you face:
- Tower Defense. If you are in combat with at least one hostile creature at least one size larger than you, you have advantage on saving throws against any condition or effect it may impose upon you. In addition, damage from any area effect or attack from this creature that hits more than one target is halved.
- Rebuke the Horde. You gain advantage on all attack rolls while you are adjacent with at least two hostile creatures. Furthermore, you gain an additional amount of reactions equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1), at the cost of 1 Ki point per reaction beyond the first. You can only use 1 reaction per trigger.
- Dragon's Pride. If you are in combat with a single creature and no one else is in combat with either you or said creature, your Monk weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 18-20. In addition, when you make an attack that reduces the creature to half of its Hit Point Maximum or less, you can make an additional attack roll against that creature.
If a scenario fulfills the requirements of more than one of these scenarios, you may only pick one set of bonuses to benefit from during your turn. However, at the beginning of your turn, you may change your choice to another set of bonuses.
