Base Class: Monk
Way of Steve monks are specially trained in a mystical art known as "Stevejitsu". According to Steve, "Stevejitsu is an art that requires patience, wild magic, and killing bad guys really hard then playing chess with their souls." The art is somewhat chaotic in nature, because Steve decided that it should be so. Why anything was made the way it was for the Way of Steve is extremely unclear, but nobody has complained yet about how hard they can punch things thanks to the damage bonuses it gives. Steve has made a few official comments on Stevejitsu, which are summarized below.
"I said it shall be, and so it did be." -Steve, GOC, OTG, GOEC, BGS, GOU
Randomized Trait
At 3rd level when you choose this Tradition, you gain one of the following features by rolling on the table below. The DM may rule that you can choose the feature, instead of rolling for it. Otherwise, roll a d8 to determine what feature you gain.
| d8 | Class Feature |
| 1 | You can spend 1 Ki point to gain advantage on any attack roll, saving throw, or skill check you make this turn. |
| 2 | You can cast levitate once per day. The saving throw is the same as your Ki save DC. |
| 3 | Your Dexterity and Wisdom scores now have a nonmagical maximum of 24, and can be improved up to 24 through ability score improvements. |
| 4 | You gain proficiency in the Acrobatics, Sleight of Hand, and Stealth skills. If you already have proficiency with all of them, choose one to gain expertise with. |
| 5 | You have advantage on Persuasion and Deception skill checks. |
| 6 | Your Martial Arts damage die increases by 1. This change is permanent, and the extra die improves as you level up. For example, when you reach 5th level, your Martial Arts die becomes 1d6, instead of 1d4. With this feature, your additional die becomes a d6 as well, making your Martial Arts dice at 5th level become 2d6, and so on for higher levels. |
| 7 | Your Charisma score increases by 2, to a maximum of 20. If your Charisma score is already 20, you may increase your Dexterity or Wisdom by 2, to any amount past 20. |
| 8 | You can add your Wisdom modifier to attack and damage rolls you make with weapons you are proficient with, on top of your Dexterity or Strength modifier. |
Hard Hitter
At 6th level, your unarmed strikes hurt bad guys a lot more. You now add half of your Wisdom modifier (rounded up) to your unarmed strike damage rolls. At 10th level, you can add your full modifier to the rolls. If you already have this benefit from the Randomized Trait feature, you may instead gain the ability to do double damage to a creature once per long rest. For this double damage, you may roll twice the amount of dice you would regularly roll, or double the number rolled. You may choose after rolling the damage, but not before it’s effects take place.
Surprise Reaction
Beginning at 11th level, you can release surges of wild magic when you take damage. You may use your reaction to activate this feature. When you do, roll on the Sorcerer's Wild Magic table listed on page 104 of the Player's Handbook. Whatever effect you roll for takes place after you are hit, and follows the regular wild magic rules. If you cast a spell that requires a saving throw, the DC is your Ki save DC.
You can only use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier. You regain expended uses at the end of a long rest.
Soulful Punch
At 17th level, when you hit with an unarmed strike against a creature that is hostile to you, you can choose to force it to make a Constitution saving throw. If the creature fails, it dies, and you absorb the power of it's soul, granting you bonuses to your ability scores based on the creatures own ability scores (determined by the DM). The DM may choose whether or not you gain a special mutation in addition, such as sprouting horns after killing a balor, or tentacles replacing your legs after slaying a kraken in this way. If the creature has a CR lower than 10, you do not gain these benefits, but it does die. If the creature succeeds, it takes 8d8 necrotic damage, which ignores immunity and resistances. In addition, when the creature dies, it's soul is sent to Steve, who will play chess with it. If the creature loses this game of chess, it buys Steve wings and beer, and it's soul is sent back to it's body, but it's intelligence is reduced to 6, and it is under your control forever. Steve may choose to do otherwise if the creature is loyal to Him, or if He feels like it. If the creature wins, Steve buys it some wings and beer, then sends it to any place of it's choosing. If the creature chooses to return to it's body, it is brought back with all of its hit points fully restored. It remains hostile to you if it already was before it died.
When you use this feature, you may not use it again until you win a game of chess against a priest of the Church of Steve. In addition to regaining the use of this feature, the priest must buy you wings and beer.

Posted Mar 16, 2021Yes, I did notice some things were a little strong, but I think the whole Steve thing is hilarious. It's been almost 11 months since you last updated this subclass, so I'm sure you've learned some things about balancing since then. I know I have.
Along that front, perhaps most of the balancing that is needing to be done is with the Randomized Trait feature. Number 3 and number 6 are in need of looking into, in my opinion. I'd lower number 3 to just letting 22 be the new maximum. As for number 6, in not sure. It's a neat concept, but it's too strong. You just automatically deal more damage when you attack. Maybe bar it behind a saving throw of some sort? I don't know.
Also, what classes have you made Steve subclasses for? If they're anything like this one, they'll be great.
A little self promotion never hurt anyone. Check out my content that I've posted on here if you want. They're decent, at least that's what I think. Instead, you could check out this link to organized homebrew that I've created. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1DDD-SiWKTZlRdTu7k29YOuy6BwRGZFxB

Posted Mar 15, 2021I'm glad you like it, but since I made it I've had a lot more experience with making things and there are several balance issues in here I'll have to address at some point.
I do think the idea is pretty funny though. I have many more Steve based subclasses if that's up your alley.
