Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

A Wrestler is one who is rigorously trained in the ancient arts of honourable sporting combat. Honing their bodies through physique and technique they embody heroes of myth and champions of gods. Their fighting style was born of competition rather than warfare and as such focuses on subduing their opponents through grapples and holds. The evolution of this however has made allowances for the dangerous lives of practitioners and expanded these fundamentals to deal with all manner of creatures both lethally and nonlethally.

Bonus Proficiency

When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: History, or Performance. Alternatively, you learn one language of your choice.

Palé / Art of the Wrestler

Starting at 3rd level, the Wrestler has honed techniques to make them more proficient in finding opportunities to utilise their improved grappling techniques.

You gain the following benefits while you are unarmoured or wearing light or medium armour:

  • You may attempt to pin or further subdue a creature you currently have Grappled. Performing another successful Grapple attempt will cause the target to be Restrained instead. On a failed check the creature is no longer grappled.
  • You can instead of making a weapon attack make a Grapple attempt when an enemy provokes an opportunity attack.
  • You may end a Grapple on a creature early by using an Attack action on your turn to throw the creature into a solid surface or another creature. Choose a surface or creature within 10ft of the grappled target to throw them. On a successful attack you deal damage to the grappled creature equal to an unarmed strike and damage to the secondary creature equal to your strength modifier if you so choose. On either a success or failure this will end the grapple.

Swift seize

Starting at 7th level, you can quickly utilise the opportunity presented by your successful strikes to combo into a hold. After making a damaging Attack against a creature you may immediately use your bonus action to attempt a Grapple check on the same target. This interrupts but does not negate further attacks gained from the Extra Attack feature.

Titan's Bane

At 7th level your grappling prowess has allowed you to surpass the limits of a less specialised combatant. You are able to wrestle with creatures two or even three sizes larger than you. However, this does not apply the Grappled condition itself. You are able instead to reduce the target creature's speed by half rather than reducing it to 0. You may not use the effects of the Art of the Wrestler bonuses on a creature held in this way.

Grasp of the Demigods

Starting at 10th level, your mastery of controlling your foes and disabling their movements further augments your battle prowess:

  • A creature Grappled by you has disadvantage on attacks against targets other than yourself.
  • When a creature is Restrained by you, neither of you can be affected by abilities that might remove you or your target from reach of eachother via forced movement.
  • Successful Grapple, improved grapple and Shove actions now deal damage equal to your strength modifier on success as well as their usual effects.
  • Opponents that take the Disengage action but move through your threatened area have their speed halved for that turn.

Techniques of the Gods

Starting at 15th Level, your ability to impede regular opponents is mythical in efficacy. Your improved grapples no longer take multiple actions and the power of your throws increases.

  • Your successful Grapple attempts now automatically inflict the Restrained condition.
  • Throwing a Grappled creature using the Art of the Wrestler class feature now allows you to select a target 20ft away.
  • The damage taken by the secondary target of throwing a Grappled creature increases to that of a full unarmed Attack, and both creatures are knocked Prone.

Might of Heracles

Starting at 18th level, you become a paragon of your art. Your power and command of your body and that of your opponents shatters the imaginations of most beings:

  • You may Grapple targets of any size at full effect and include all bonuses and improvements to your Grapples.
  • Your proficiency bonus for Strength (Athletics) checks made to Grapple or Shove are doubled.
  • You can attempt to fully disable a target that is Restrained by you using a special Attack. The target creature must make a Constitution Saving Throw of DC (8+ your proficiency bonus + your strength modifier) or become Unconscious.
