Base Class: Ranger
In a distant realm, Gods and Man both originate from the Giants of the heavens, the Titans. Gods were the successors of the Titans, and Mankind but the creation of a single Titan whom fathered no Gods. However, as the Gods slew their ancestors and took their thrones, the Giants and Humans became their servants. The newest, yet wisest of the Giants, the Trolls, would pity the Humans. Now without their creator, Humanity became blind with faith and integral to the might of the Gods. Thus, the Trolls chose to betray their masters, and whisper the speck of Godly power into the ears of mankind. For this traitorous action, the Gods sought to cast the Trolls away from Giantkind.
Thus the Trolls were outcasts among all Giants, and those Giants who would defend their brethren and sisters would be turned into the Ogres. These mortal Giants, or lesser Giants, were twisted into poor reflections of what they once were. Trolls would witness the world that they once served rotting before their very eyes, and gaze upon the close allies they once loved, now turn into brain rotted brutes and cannibals. There was something to be done.
Most Trolls chose to stand before the Gods, seeking to stand for the wrong doing acts of pride that they had performed. The Gods give back each and every Troll their immortality, but would mold the Troll's bodies into the first forests, their flayed skin would turn into the grass and their bones into the first trees. For this sacrifice, the Gods would forgive the mortal Humans for listening to the Trolls. There are no true Trolls left, but their mortal descendants still remain. Among the Firbolg to the western isles, amidst the Orcs to the Northern mountains, and of some Humans, the heirs of Trolls still walks the earth. While they may not know it, and they are not blood related, the woods gives them comfort. For the immortal Trolls live on as the literal soul of the forest, the plains, the hills and the swamps and will only die when the landscape it became also falls.
Just like how Gods, Giants and Mankind may be different from one another, the Trolls are the same. Some of them enjoy the calm of merely existing, to be apart of something immortal once more. Maybe a set of them conspire to create rebellion against the Gods by forming cults amidst the forest glades? Perhaps a singular Troll whispers hidden truth in the ears of a singular Hunter in the wilderness? Most likely, there are Trolls who still love their Godly masters, even for all that they brought upon them. Surely there are Trolls who attempts to cure the accursed lesser Giants from their stupidity. But there is a certainty within all of them, a vile depth that each one of them took a part of in their twisted time as mortals.
Trollbound
At 3rd level, you learn to use your magic to temporarily grow in size and take on a Troll-like form. When you do, you gain similiar traits of these wicked Giants, such as overgrown limbs, elongated and horrible facial features, warty skin and wicked horns. As a Action, you assume your Trollbound form, which lasts until you end it as a Action, or are incapacitated. While in this form, any effect which would cause you to become Frightened will also cause you to revert back to your true form.
You undergo the following changes while in your Trollbound form:
• Size Increase. Your size becomes Large, unless you were larger.
• Trollish Temptation. Your alignment grows one step closer to Evil, unless your alignment already was Evil to begin with. This manifests in an exaggerated emotion or world view, such as anger, greed, cruelty, nihilism or even sadistic tendencies. This is not a part of you, but the feelings that can be found in the twisted heart of the Troll that gave you these powers.
• Long Limbs. Your reach increases by 5 feet.
• Powerful Smash. As a action on your turn, you can slam the earth with your large body. This is centered on a point which you can reach. Anything and anyone that is within a 5 feet radius of that point, except for yourself, takes 1d6 + your Strength modifier (minimum 0) Bludgeoning damage, or half of that if they succeed a Dexterity saving throw against your Ranger spell DC. Constructs, inanimate objects and plants take double damage from this attack.
• Troll Skin. You gain a number of temporary hit points at the start of each of your turns. The number equals half your ranger level. When the form ends, you lose any temporary hit points you have from it.
Primeval Senses
At 3rd level, you can interact with the world as the Trolls did before you. You gain the following benefits:
• Thick Fur. You are able to endure extremely cold environments and hazardous weather effects in freezing climates. In your Trollbound form, you ignore difficult terrain brought on by deep snow, icy slopes, muddy swamps and blinding rain.
• Nature's Law. You are able to cast the Druidcraft cantrip. In your Trollbound form, you increase the reach of this cantrip by 10 feet.
Mountain Breaker
Beginning at 5th level, you can manifest a true Troll's might. You gain the following benefits while in your Trollbound form:
• Giant Steps. You gain a climbing and swimming speed equal to half of your land movement speed.
• Powerful Smash. Increase the damage you deal with this ability to 2d6.
• Vile Breath. You are now able to spew forth a vile breath attack as a bonus action, causing all creatures within a 15 foot cone to take 2d6 acid or fire damage unless they succeed at a Dexterity saving throw against your Ranger spell DC.
(This ability is meant for the Revised Ranger variant. If one wishes to play the Trollhide Conclave with the original Ranger class, the Giant Steps ability is granted at 3rd level, while Powerful Smash and Vile Breath are both gained at 7th level.)
Force of Nature
At 7th level, you gain the endurance of a giant. Your hit point maximum and current hit points increase by 2 per Ranger level when you assume your Trollbound form. This increase lasts until you leave the form; your hit point maximum then returns to normal, but your current hit points remain the same, unless they must decrease to abide by your hit point maximum.
Soul of the Forest
At 11th level, you no longer need to breathe to survive, and you can move through nonmagical wood and plantlife as if it was air. You may still interact with plants and wood in a normal state, even going as far as being able to pull and manipulate wood akin to wet clay by bringing wood along with you as you walk through it.
As long as you are not attacked by a surprise attack, any attack made by a nonmagical wooden weapon will simply pass through you, unless you desire to be struck by it.
Regeneration
At 15th level, as long as you are in your Trollbound form, you regain a number of hit points equal to your Ranger level at the start of its turn. You may, as a action, regrow lost limbs or organs at the cost of three hit dice. Organs or limbs that have been lost in your normal state are lost once more upon ending your Trollbound form.
You may choose to regrow all of your lost limbs and organs during a Long Rest in your Trollbound form.
