Base Class: Bard
Bards of the College of Clouds are called Sky Pirates. They entertain through daring feats of combat prowess and tales of their grand exploits (often greatly embellished, stolen, or made up entirely; but they will always make themselves the focus of the tale). Sky Pirates perform stunts such as trick shooting, knife throwing and juggling, and mock combats. Though they use their weapons to entertain, they are also highly trained and skilled warriors in their own right.
Sky Pirates value freedom above all else, and they rarely stay in one place for an extended time. Though this may tend towards a chaotic leaning, some Sky Pirates maintain a strict code of honor. Some Sky Pirates prefer nefarious deeds such as assassination, robbery, and blackmail while others prefer heroic deeds such as striking at the wicked, bringing justice to bear against the cruel and powerful. The one thing they never are, is subtle. They have no problem being stealthy, but in the end they want everyone to know who is responsible for the deed, often leaving a calling card, or ensuring a single opponent survives to tell the tale. Fame or fear, either way, they very rarely live on the right side of the law.
"I don't care, I'm still free. You can't take the sky from me."
*note: mechanically, this is a modified version of the College of Swords. Do to the thematic reliance on air travel and proficiency in firearms, this subclass is designed for settings with airships and firearms. It was originally designed for Eberron.
Bonus Proficiencies
When you join the College of the Sky Pirate at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with firearms.
If you’re proficient with a weapon you are wielding, you can use it as a spellcasting focus for your bard spells.
You also gain proficiency with either Navigator's Tools, Tinker's Tools, or a Gaming Set of choice, depending on your role in the crew. In order to be a good crew member, you should only choose a Gaming Set if you already have proficiency in both Navigator's tools and Tinker's Tools.
I would also include Vehicles(Air) as a choice if it were an option. As a house rule, that could be chosen instead, though will not reflect on the character sheet.
Proficiency with a Gaming Set
You gain Proficiency with a Gaming Set of choice
Proficiency with Navigator's Tools
You gain proficiency with Navigator's Tools
Proficiency with Tinker's Tools
Gain Proficiency with Tinker's Tools
Fighting Style
At 3rd level, you adopt a style of fighting as your specialty. Choose one of the following options. You can’t take a Fighting Style option more than once, even if something in the game lets you choose again.
Archery
You gain a +2 bonus to attack rolls you make with ranged weapons.
Dueling
When you are wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls with that weapon.
Stylish Attack
At 3rd level, you learn to perform impressive displays of combat prowess and speed.
Whenever you take the Attack action on your turn, your walking speed increases by 10 feet until the end of the turn, and if a weapon attack that you make as part of this action hits a creature, you can use one of the following Stylish Attack options of your choice. You can use only one Stylish Attack option per turn.
Defensive Style: You can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration to cause the weapon to deal extra damage to the target you hit. The damage equals the number you roll on the Bardic Inspiration die. You also add the number rolled to your AC until the start of your next turn.
Fragmentation Style (if Archery Style was chosen): You can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration to cause the weapon to deal extra damage to the target you hit and to any other creature of your choice that you can see within 5 feet of the target. The damage equals the number you roll on the Bardic Inspiration die.
Slashing Style (if Dueling Style was chosen): You can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration to cause the weapon to deal extra damage to the target you hit and to any other creature of your choice that you can see within 5 feet of you. The damage equals the number you roll on the Bardic Inspiration die.
Mobile Style: You can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration to cause the weapon to deal extra damage to the target you hit. The damage equals the number you roll on the Bardic Inspiration die. You can also push the target up to 5 feet away from you, plus a number of feet equal to the number you roll on that die. You can then immediately use your reaction to move up to your walking speed to an unoccupied space within 5 feet of the target.
Extra Attack
Starting at 6th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.
Peerless Skill
Starting at 14th level, when you make an ability check, you can expend one use of Bardic Inspiration. Roll a Bardic Inspiration die and add the number rolled to your ability check. You can choose to do so after you roll the die for the ability check, but before the DM tells you whether you succeed or fail.
