Way of the Mind Blade

Monks who walk the Way of the Mind Blade are those whose path is one of a razor’s edge. They seek to merge their ki, and their wills into weapons of minimalistic beauty, which can be wielded by bodies equally honed and refined.

Mind Blade

Starting when you walk this Way at 3rd level, you’ve learned to forge your ki into a straight blade of hardened light. When you are about to make a melee or ranged weapon attack against a creature, you can manifest your psychic blade from your free hand and make the attack with that blade. This magic blade is a simple melee weapon with the finesse, and thrown properties. The weapon is a monk weapon for you, and has a normal range of 60 feet and no long range. On a hit, it deals force damage equal to 1d8 plus the ability modifier you used for the attack roll. The blade vanishes immediately after it hits or misses its target if it is not being held in your hand.

Psionic ki Talent

3rd-level Way of the Mind Blade feature

Your ki is a wellspring of psionic power within you, an energy that ebbs and flows as you channel it in various ways. This power is represented by your Psionic Talent die, the starting size of which is a d6.

Psionic Talent Options. You can use your Psionic Talent die in the following ways:

Psychokinetic Leap. When you make a high or long jump, you can roll your Psionic Talent die and extend the distance of the jump, up to a number of feet equal to twice the number rolled plus twice your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1 extra foot). This extra distance costs you only 1 foot of movement.

Force Strike. You can smash a target creature or object you can see with your ki. Once on each of your turns, immediately after you deal damage to a target within 30 feet of you with your Mind Blade attack, you can psychokinetically strike the same or a different target. The target must succeed on a Strength saving throw against a DC equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier. Unless the save succeeds, you can knock the target prone or move it up to 10 feet in any direction horizontally, or take bludgeoning damage. Your choice. If choosing to cause damage, roll your Psionic Talent die and deal force damage to the target equal to the number rolled plus your Wisdom modifier.

Changing the Die’s Size. If you roll the highest number on your Psionic Talent die, it decreases by one die size after the roll. This represents you burning through your psionic energy. For example, if the die is a d6 and you roll a 6, it becomes a d4. If it’s a d4 and you roll a 4, it becomes unusable until you finish a long rest.

Conversely, if you roll a 1 on your Psionic Talent die, it increases by one die size after the roll, up to its starting size. This represents you conserving psionic energy for later use. For example, if you roll a 1 on a d4, the die then becomes a d6.

Whenever you finish a long rest, your Psionic Talent die resets to its starting size. When you reach certain levels in this class, the starting size of your Psionic Talent die increases: at 5th level (d8), 11th level (d10), and 17th level (d12).

Psi Replenishment. As a bonus action, you can calm your mind for a moment and restore your Psionic Talent die to its starting size. You then can’t use Psi Replenishment again until you finish a long rest.

Psionic ki Adept

6th-level Way of the Mind Blade feature

You have mastered new ways to manifest your Psionic ki abilities.

Psionic Flurry. When you make a Flurry of Blows, you can make the additional attacks with your Mind Blade.

ki Movement. You gain the cantrip, Mage Hand. The hand is invisible.

Art of the Soul’s Edge

11th-level Way of the Mind Blade feature

Your mind, body, and soul are in harmony and sharpened to near perfection.

ki Strike

You gain the ability to augment your unarmed strikes and your Mind Blade further with your Psionic ki. As a bonus action, you can roll the Psionic Talent die to grant your unarmed attacks and Mind Blade a bonus to attack and damage rolls when you attack with them. The bonus equals the number rolled on the Psionic Talent die. This bonus lasts for 1 minute or until you burn through your psionic energy. It is replenished after you finish a short rest.

Mind Blade Sweep.

You can expend 1 ki point to give your Mind Blade the Reach property until the end of your turn.

If there are multiple creatures within a 10 foot radius of you, you can spend one additional point of ki per creature to make a single additional weapon attack with your Mind Blade against each creature.

Peerless

You are your Mind Blade and your Mind Blade is you.

17th-level Way of the Mind Blade feature

Transcendent Blade

You and your Mind Blade are one. You add +1 to its attack and damage rolls. You can choose for your Mind Blade to affect inanimate materials and creatures. The Mind Blade gains the Siege property and deals force damage to objects and structures when you choose. Reactions that parry or block to add Armor Class against an attack are ineffective against attacks made with the Mind Blade.

Additionally, critical strikes from your weapon rends the soul of the target. If a creature would have less than 50 hit points after taking damage from your critical strike, the creature must make a Charisma saving throw. On a failure, its Charisma becomes zero and it dies.

Psychokinetic Master

Your ability to move creatures and objects with your mind is matched by few. If your Psionic Talent die is available, you can cast the Telekinesis spell, requiring no components. Your spellcasting ability for the spell is Wisdom. When you cast this spell, your Psionic Talent die decreases by one die size.
