Base Class: Rogue
You may not know why and how, but you have been touched by the mists of the Ethereal Plane. Your training has focused around using this innate ability to help your blade strike true and subvert the defenses of your foes. Your method of fighting is quick and cruel, stepping through the ethereal plane to evade and surprise combatants.
Mistwalker Features
| Rogue Level | Feature |
|---|---|
| 3rd | Ethereal Step, Weapon Bond |
| 9th | Misty Gale |
| 13th | Weaken Borders |
| 17th | Ethereal Jaunt |
Ethereal Step
When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you learn how to briefly step through the ethereal plane in the midst of combat. As your Cunning Action, you may use half of your base movement to teleport up to 15 feet to an unoccupied space that you can see. You must be able to reach this location during your turn through conventional means. If another feature or condition, such as Rage, prevents you from casting spells, you also may not use this feature.
You also gain an additional way to use your Sneak Attack; you don’t need advantage on the attack roll to use your Sneak Attack against a creature if you used this feature this turn to teleport within 5 feet of a creature, and you don't have disadvantage on the attack roll. All other rules for Sneak Attack still apply to you.
Weapon Bond
At 3rd level, you learn a ritual that extends your ethereal essence to one weapon with which you are proficient and does not have the Heavy property. You perform the ritual over the course of 1 hour, which can be done during a short rest. The weapon must be within your reach throughout the ritual, at the conclusion of which you touch the weapon and forge the bond.
Once you have bonded a weapon to yourself, part of its weight is transferred into the Border Ethereal and it has the Finesse property for you. If it is on the same plane of existence, you can summon that weapon as a bonus action on your turn, causing it to teleport instantly to your hand.
You can have up to two bonded weapons, but can summon only one at a time with your bonus action. If you attempt to bond with a third weapon, you must break the bond with one of the other two.
Misty Gale
At 9th level, your learn to push yourself to cross in and out of the Border Ethereal with incredible speed. When you deal damage with your sneak attack feature, you may to teleport up to 15 feet and make another attack with the same weapon. When you do so, you take 1d8+1 force damage prior to making the attack. On a hit, the target suffers the attack's normal effects, as well as taking force damage equal to the total amount of force damage you've taken during the use of this feature. You may then teleport and attack again, repeating the effects of this feature until one of your attacks miss or you choose not to make another chained attack.
Once you use this feature, you may not make it again until you finish a short or long rest.
Weaken Borders
Starting at 13th level, you may cast Fog Cloud at first level at will, without expending a spell slot
Ethereal Jaunt
Like a ghost, you have the ability to slip in and out of the Ethereal Plane. You can now use your Cunning Action to teleport to an unoccupied space within 30 feet of you. You don’t need to see that space to teleport to it, but your teleportation fails, wasting your bonus action, if you attempt to teleport through magical force that is Medium or larger, such as a wall of force. If you appear in a space occupied by another creature or filled by an object, you are immediately shunted to the nearest unoccupied space that you can occupy and take force damage equal to twice the number of feet you are shunted.
