Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

Zarok Şev, also known as “the Night Childe”, is the patron of goblin assassins. He is the one who steals children who misbehave. He is vengeance, he is chaos, and he is the terror in the night. Goblin’s who pray to him are often from the fringes of goblin society, ones that other goblins stay away from. For followers, typically of Chaotic Evil or Chaotic Neutral alignment, to gain Zarok Şev’s notice a goblin must commit murder. This act is to be done alone and at night. Once Zarok identifies a goblin of potential, he visits them every night while they sleep and whispers the Sacrament into their ear until they either become a devoted disciple or die from terror. His followers make masques in his likeness out of bone or teeth from their victims in order to instill the terror of the Night Childe.

There are four types of masques crafted by the followers of the Night Childe; Masque of Carnage, Masque of Terror, Masque of Treachery, and Masque of Death. Each one is unique and it's terrible power may only be used by the one who crafted it.

Goblin Craftwerk

His throat was raw and the acrid air had a weight to it that forced his heaving lungs to work arduously just to draw a breath. The small figure in front of him, sitting at a laboratory desk with their back to him, cocked its head slightly as if to acknowledge the presence of the young ranger before going back to their mortar and pestle. He fought to draw his bow and put an arrow into the foul creature that had been terrorizing his village, but he found it impossible to breathe. As the walls closed in and his world fell sideways, the creature finally turned around. A frightful masque set with green glass orbs for eyes and a long proboscis adorned its head. With a jagged blade in hand and cruel efficiency the creature set about its next task. All he could do was watch in horror.

There is an art to delivering death. Some assassins paint with a blade and some assassins paint with poison. To the Goblin Assassin, it matters not. The real importance is in the ability to draw upon the face of the Night Childe. When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with the jeweler's tools and the poisoner's kit.

"There be poisons that blind ye, and poisons that open yer eyes." ~ Aug Strind, Goblin Artificer, Philosopher, and Painter.

Masque of Carnage

The sorcerer centered his mind drawing upon the magical energies surrounding him. He began weaving them into something tangible, something terrible, like a spider toying with its prey. The words that would call the fiery explosion whispered in his mind as he felt its power coming to fruition. He would show these petty goblins who they were dealing with. The hand of death came swiftly, unexpectedly, and brutally. As the sorcerer opened his mouth to deliver his arcane conflagration, there was no magic that escaped, only blood. His single remaining thought… ‘How’

"Kill them quick, kill them fast. Collect their teeth before they've passed." ~ Mitch, Goblin Assassin

Masque of Terror

They were outnumbered four to one, but she had fought goblins before. This rabble was especially ill-equipped and disorganized. The experienced captain knew she hold them off till her elven reinforcements arrived despite being trapped in a box canyon. She couldn’t help but pause before giving the defensive order when she saw him. He stood there like a wrathful beast amidst a field of sheep, his dreadful gaze piercing deep into her soul searching for her fear. She didn’t even know she had such despair, it had welled up inside her for years hidden, unchecked. Suddenly without warning it broke free from her in a frightful shriek, her echoes reverberating off the canyon walls. As the chaos erupted around her, the captain almost didn’t notice the arrow protruding from her neck. Almost.

"Now they will know why they are afraid of the dark. Now they learn why they fear the night." ~ Thulsa Doom

Masque of Treachery

Making his rounds for the evening the seneschal for House Ulfger found himself staring at the midwife. A Halfling with intense eyes. Unblinking eyes that seemed to drink in every detail from the world around her. Wolfish eyes that now seemed fixated on him. Shamefully he attempted to step aside while she approached as her mere presence demanded a wide berth. All at once she moved at a preternatural speed that defied the senses crushing his windpipe and stuffing his broken body into the linen closet nearby. His cold lifeless eyes stared blankly at the sheets and blankets she’d cleaned and neatly folded earlier that evening after delivering his Lords first child.

"It is amazing how complete is the delusion that beauty is goodness." ~ N'kolev Mizzrym, Author and Noble of House Mizzrym.

Masque of Death

She could feel it. Death was coming. The wind spoke to her, like it always had, and she could feel its urgency from the growing tempest. The witch knew it was her time. She was too old and frail to flee, yet too proud to succumb to the imminent menace without a fight. All at once the air became still, as if the windstorm that raged within her cottage had abandoned her. Before her gnarled hands could draw the magic wand from her belt a small figure leapt from the shadows and buried its ragged dagger deep into her chest. Its grotesque gleaming eyes pursued her own as she relinquished what little life she had left.

Behold the face of death, and despair in its unwavering gaze. Starting at 17th level, you gain the ability to craft a Masque of Death using jeweler's tools [DC18]. Cost to create the masque is 2,000 gp and materials must include bones &/or teeth collected from notable kills. When you attack while wearing this masque and hit a creature that is surprised, it must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + your Dexterity modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save, double the damage of your attack against the creature.

The Masque of Death also functions as a Masque of Treachery, a Masque of Terror, and as a Masque of Carnage.
