Monk
Base Class: Monk

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain the ability to transform your Ki into lighting and thunderous roars to enhance your strikes and modify your body.

Thunderous Blows

At 3rd level, when you channel Ki into your attacks you augment your unarmed strikes to inflict devastating blows. Whenever you hit a creature with an unarmed melee attack as part of your flurry of blows you may inflict your choice of lightning or thunder damage, and impose one of the following effects:

  • Lightning Drain: You gain temporary hit points equal to half the damage your attack deals.
  • Double Strike: The target gains vulnerability to lightning damage until the end of your next turn.
  • Lightning Slide: You teleport the target up to 15 feet to a destination you can see.
  • Thunderclap: The target takes an extra 1d4 thunder damage. The impact is heard to a distance of 100 feet.

Lightning Speed

At 6 level you gain the ability to briefly infuse your body with a large amount of lightning-based Ki, causing your eyes to glow white and arcs of lightning to spiderweb outwards. On your turn, you can spend 3 Ki points as a bonus action to gain the effects of the haste spell and one additional reaction per turn. This does not require concentration and you receive one level of exhaustion after this effect ends.

Channel Lightning

Beginning at 11th level, you tap into the greater power of your lightning-based Ki. On your turn you can spend 3-6 Ki points, as a bonus action, or as part of empowering your lightning speed, to summon a tremendous amount of lighting for 1 minute. While under the effects of channel lightning, your body is surrounded by arcs of searing lightning and you gain the following benefits:

  • Deflect Attack:  When you take slashing, piercing, bludgeoning, or lightning damage, you can use your reaction to deflect it. When you do so, the damage you take is reduced by 1d10 + your dexterity modifier + your monk level.
  • Lightning Strike: Once on each of your turns when you hit a target with an unarmed melee attack, you can deal extra lightning or thunder damage to the target equal to your Martial Arts die.
  • Lightning Arc:When you make an unarmed melee attack you gain a bonus to attack and damage rolls equal to the number of Ki points above 3 spent when activating channel lightning. This feature replaces any existing bonus to attack and damage rolls. You do not gain this benefit if the target is resistant or immune to lightning damage.

Visage of the Storm

Starting at 17th level, you gain precise control over your Ki-based lightning, allowing you to mold its physical shape freely. On your turn, as part of activating Lightning Speed and Channel Lightning you can spend 4 additional Ki points to surround your physical form in a suit of coalesced lightning armor for 1 minute. You determine the appearance of the armor when activating visage of the storm. While visage of the storm is active, you gain the effects conferred by lightning speed and channel lightning, as well as the following:

  • Electrified Armor: You gain a +2 bonus to AC and resistance to lightning damage while you aren’t incapacitated. When a creature within 5 feet of you hits you with a melee attack the armor immediately deals 2d8 lightning damage to the attacker.
  • Lightning Barrage: When you use the attack action to make an unarmed melee strike on your turn, you can make three unarmed strikes as a bonus action. These attacks deal an additional 2d8 lightning damage.
