Base Class: Wizard
Wizards may spend years deciphering the mysteries of the arcane, years pouring through books and scrolls and taking exams at their respective schools. You however, try as you might, just never got the hang of the constant academia. While some like you may turn to other means of gaining magic like Warlocks, you've managed to get by with what little you did get to grips with, and you've gained some skills from copying other students' work and stealing their projects to put up as your own.
School Dropout Features
| Wizard Level | Feature |
|---|---|
| 2nd | Skilled Copier, Slow to Learn |
| 6th | Unclear Notes |
| 10th | Last-Minute Revision |
| 14th | Spell Plagiarist |
Skilled Copier
At 2nd level, after years of cheating on exams and scavenging other people's notes on spells and rituals you have gained proficiency in the Deception and Sleight of Hand skills.
Slow to Learn
Also at 2nd level you've gotten used to getting by doing the bare minimum, but despite everything you're still not great at learning new things. The money you must spend copying spells of any school is halved, but the time it takes to copy them is doubled.
Unclear Notes
At 6th level you can attempt to cast a spell you don't know from vague notes you wrote in class. The spell must be available on the Wizard's spell list and of a level you can cast and have a casting time of one action.
Roll an Intelligence saving throw (DC = 10 + the spell's level), on a success you cast the spell successfully at its lowest level - expending the corresponding spell slot for it. On a failure, however, you don't cast the spell and instead must roll on the Magic Misfire table below.
Magic Misfire
| d20 | Effect |
|---|---|
| 1 | You cast Grease centered on yourself. |
| 2 | You lose the ability to speak for 1d4 rounds. |
| 3 | Your size decreases by one size category for 1 minute. |
| 4 | You cast Levitate on yourself. |
| 5 | You turn and walk 10 feet in a random direction. |
| 6 | You take 2d6 psychic damage. |
| 7 | You cast Faerie Fire centered on yourself. |
| 8 | You become blind for 1d4 rounds. |
| 9 | You become deaf for 1d4 rounds. |
| 10 | Roll twice (ignoring a 10) and both effects happen. |
Last-Minute Revision
At 10th level you can spend 10 minutes searching through your spellbook to prepare a number of spells up to your Intelligence modifier that you did not previously have prepared. These spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots, and you must then 'unprepare' the same number of spells from those you have prepared.
You can do this once before you must complete a long rest.
Spell Plagiarist
At 14th level you've adapted your talent for plagiarism from simple notes and exam answers to actual spells. When a creature you can see within 60 feet of you casts a spell you can attempt to cast that same spell as a reaction. The spell must be of a level you can cast and for which you have spell slots available, if the spell requires material components with a monetary value, and you lack these components you are unable to attempt the casting.
When you attempt to cast the spell you must roll an Intelligence saving throw (DC = 10 + the spell's level). On a success you cast the spell successfully at its lowest level - expending the corresponding spell slot for it. On a failure, however, you don't cast the spell and must roll on the Magic Misfire table.
You can do this a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier, and regain all uses of this feature after a long rest.
