Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

Magical scholars and sages have long divided the study of magic into two distinct realms, the arcane and the divine. For some mages that division does not sit well with their understanding of magic. If the two were so separate they ask, how does a bard cast healing spells? Why can a cleric and a necromancer both create undead servants? How can both clerics and some warlocks bring the dead back to life?

To the Mystic Theurge, these divisions and restrictions are arbitrary, based on rigid tradition and nothing more. The truth they see is that there is only magic. Pure, limitless potential for those willing to embrace non-conformity. You only need to study the right materials. As they gain levels, Mystic Theurges learn to expand this philosophy to include a few spells from even the most esoteric of sources.

The Truth of Magic

When you select this tradition at 2nd level, you gain access to spells from the cleric spell list. They count as wizard spells for you and you may freely chose from them when you learn new spells for gaining a level. You may also inscribe cleric spells into your spellbook from scrolls and other sources at the same cost and time requirement as wizard spells.

Truth in Practice

When you select this tradition at second level you may learn two cantrips from the cleric spell list, they are wizard cantrips for you and do not count against the number of cantrips you know.

Additionally you gain proficiency in Arcana and Religion if you did not already have them.

Material Truths

Your studies to learn the secrets of whole magic involved a lot of experiments, studying theory and philosophy, and note taking. LOTS of note taking. Whether in the margins of your spellbook, or the pages of separate journals you have accumulated more esoteric knowledge than many full-time scholars. But knowledge is power, just like magic.

Because of your extensive notes, when you have your spellbook or journal with you, you can spend 1 minute skimming for pertinent information to gain advantage on a single Arcana or Religion check you make in the next hour.

Mystic Truths

Your deep study of, and into the nature of, magic has ingrained certain spells into your mind so deeply you can cast them almost by reflex.

You can cast Detect Magic at will, and you cast it as a bonus action. You can cast Comprehend Languages and Identify each once per day without expending a spell slot or needing material components.

Universal Truths

Starting at 14th level, your vast knowledge of magic as a whole has granted you the ability to resist some of its harmful effects. You have advantage on saving throws against spells. Furthermore, you have resistance against the damage of spells.
