Invoke Shadow

You can use a bonus action to magically invoke a shadow copy of yourself in an unoccupied space you can see within 15 feet of you. This shadow is a magical, opaque, darkened image of you that lasts until it is destroyed, until you dismiss it as a bonus action, until you invoke another shadow, or until you’re incapacitated.

Your shadow is an object that has an AC of 12 + your Dexterity modifier, 1 hit point, and immunity to all conditions. If it has to make a saving throw, it uses your saving throw bonus for the roll, and benefits from your Elusive and Evasion features. It is the same size as you, it occupies its space, and it counts as a creature for the purposes of determining sneak attack. On your turn, you can mentally command the shadow to move up to your speed and take the hide (no action required). If your shadow is ever more than 60 feet from you at the end of your turn, it is destroyed.

You can use the shadow in the following ways:

  • As a bonus action, you can teleport, magically swapping places with your shadow, as long as one or both of you are standing in dim light or darkness, regardless of the distance between the two of you.
  • When you take the Attack action on your turn, any attack you make with that action can originate from your space or the shadow’s space. You make this choice for each attack you make.
  • When you cast a spell you may cast it as though you were in the shadow’s space.
  • When a creature that you can see within 5 feet of your shadow moves at least 5 feet away from it, you can use your reaction to make an opportunity attack against that creature as if you were in the shadow’s space.

Shadowed Mirrors

While you are in dim light or darkness you may cast the Silent Image and Mirror Image spells once each. You cannot cast these spells this way again until you finish a short or long rest. When you cast Mirror Image your shadow also appears to have the illusions, but it receives no benefit from the spell. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Always Prepared

You gain the ability to create an object of hardened shadow using a bonus action. This object can take the form of your thieves tools, or a magical dagger which deals 2d4 psychic damage instead. Objects created with this feature fade back to shadow when you let go of them or after making a ranged weapon attack with them.

Shadow Projection

At 13th level you gain the ability to create a personal mark using charcoal that you can project your shadow to. When you invoke your shadow you may summon it within 20 feet of any location on the same plane of existence that you are familiar with in which your mark has been made, or within 20 feet of a creature that you know carries your mark. The target location must be in dim light or darkness. You may only create a number of marks equal to your proficiency bonus ({{modifier:proficiency}}), if you try to create more than your maximum you must choose to destroy an existing one, a mark can only be destroyed by you or by the dispel magic spell.

Additionally, you can temporarily transfer your consciousness to your shadow. As an action, you can see through your shadow’s eyes, hear through its ears, speak through its mouth, and take any actions you are capable of taking from the shadow’s place. During this time, you are deafened and blinded. You can sustain this effect for up to 10 minutes, and you can end it at any time (requires no action). While your shadow is being used in this way, it can be up to 1,000 feet away from you or one of your marks without being destroyed.

Finally, a creature may request your shadow's presence by being in contact with your mark and focusing on their desire for contact for 1 minute. You are not required to respond in any way but you are aware of the request.

Guild of Shadows

You can use a bonus action to create two shadows with your Invoke Shadow feature, and these shadows can coexist. You may have a maximum of up to three shadow’s active at once and control them all at the same time. If you try to create a fourth shadow, the previous three shadows are destroyed. Anything you can do from one shadow’s position can be done from the other’s instead.

Additionally when you take the Attack action you may make a second attack from one of your Shadow’s places using a bonus action. If this attack meets the requirements for sneak attack, and you have already dealt your sneak attack damage this turn, you may deal half your total sneak attack damage dice with this attack.
