Base Class: Monk
Warriors of honor, Bushi are fearless, always seeking perfection in battle and life. Many become masters of iaijutsu, or mastery of the katana. Others become masters of nitojutsu, the art of fighting with the katana and wakizashi. As they grow in skill, they become more terrifying and more beautiful.
Student of the way
When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your special martial arts training leads you to master the use of certain weapons. This path also includes instruction in the deft strokes of calligraphy or painting. You gain one of the following benefits.
Iaijutsu. When wielding the katana in two hands, you add your strength and dexterity modifier to attack and damage rolls. If you hit with a melee attack, you may make an unarmed attack as a bonus action.
Nitojutsu. When wielding both the katana and the wakizashi, you can attack with both as a single action and add your strength or dexterity to both damage rolls.If you hit with a melee attack, you may make an unarmed attack as a bonus action.
When using any style, If you hit with a melee attack with either style, you can make an unarmed attack, dealing 1d4 + strength or dexterity damage, or put up a defensive guard, which adds your proficency bonus to your AC till the start of your next turn.
Way of the Brush. You gain proficiency with your choice of calligrapher’s supplies or painter’s supplies.
Iaijutsu
You have chosen to focus your training on perfecting your mastery of the katana. You add both your strength and dexterity modifiers to your attack rolls and your damage rolls.
Nitojutsu
You have chosen to focus on mastering the ability to wield your daisho with a blade in each hand. With an attack action you can make an attack with your katana and your wakizashi, adding your strength or dexterity to both damage rolls.
First level of mastery
At 6th level, you extend your ki into your weapons, granting you the following benefits.
Magic Weapons. Your attacks with your weapons count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
Deft Strike. When you hit a target with one or both of your weapons, you can spend 1 ki point to attack again with the weapons you hit with.
Kyujutsu mastery
When you reach 6th level in this class, you become proficient in the short and long bows. You may add both your strength and dexterity modifiers to attack rolls and damage rolls.
Swift Shot
If you hit with a ranged attack you may spend a ki point to attack again.
Frightening shout
At 11th level, as a bonus action, you can expend 2 ki points to shout out. Foes within 15 feet must make a wisdom ST, DC of 8 + proficiency + Charisma or Strength modifier, or be frightened of you for 1 minute. Affected foes may make a new ST attempt at the end of each of their turns.
Second level of mastery
When you reach 11th level in this class, you can no longer be flanked. You also improve your chosen style as below.
Iaijutsu - Stance of Power
You add you unarmed damage to the damage caused by your katana. You also gain proficiency in the no-dachi, or two handed sword, and can use all of your Iaijutsu abilities with it.
Nitojutsu - Stance of Speed
When you use your bonus action for flurry of blows, make an additional attack with your wakizashi.
You may choose to fight with two katana instead of with the traditional daisho and continue using your Nitojutsu abilities.
Stance of Power
Add your unarmed damage to your weapon damage if using a longsword or a greatsword. Added damage goes from 1d8 to 1d10 at 17th level.
Stance of Speed
When you make your flurry of blows attack, make an additional off hand attack.
Terrifying Shout
At 17th level, you may spend 2 ki points to shout. Foes in a 30' burst must make a wisdom saving throw, DC of 8 + Strength or Charisma modifier + proficiency bonus or be frightened of the Bushi for 1 minute.
True Mastery
When you reach 17th level in this class, you maygmay spend 3 ki points to gain an additional attack action when wielding weapons from your chosen style.
