Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Way of the Mountain Root learn to draw their strength from the Earth, fortifying their own capabilities. They are amazing cultivators of life and prosperity, but will quickly bring a decisive and crushing end to their enemies.

Those who follow the Way of the Mountain Root might be skilled farmers, cultivating the land for their families and bringing great life to the area. Some might be wandering nomads, trying to bring an end to conflicts (whether through negotiation or force), while others might be unstoppable harbingers of their or someone else's own will.

Mountain's Strength

From the time your training in this Way begins, you rely not on quickness and evasion to survive, but instead strength and resilience. Your unarmed strikes and Monk weapons use your Strength instead of your Dexterity bonus for attack and damage rolls. You use your Strength instead of Dexterity bonus for your Unarmored defense trait. You gain proficiency in Wisdom saving throws, but lose your proficiency in Dexterity saving throws. Whenever you must make a Dexterity saving throw, you may choose to instead make a Strength saving throw.

Earth's Protection

Your connection to the earth brings you vitality, protection, and strength. As a bonus action, you may draw on the earth below you for power. For the next 10 minutes, your Strength score increases by 2. You may spend ki points to fuel this effect, with every two ki points increasing your Strength Score by 1. You may spend these points to increase your score at any time while you are in this state.

This effect immediately ends if you lose contact with the ground for a substantial amount of time (e.g. falling from a height will break contact, but basic actions in combat will not).

You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier per long rest.

You Reap What You Sow

At 6th level, you have learned how to weather the vibrations of your opponents' attacks, and can redirect them. When a creature makes an attack roll against you, you may use your reaction to spend a ki point to immediately make an attack roll of your own (using your unarmed strike bonus). If your total meets or exceed the total of the oncoming attack, the attack is redirected toward the attacker, causing them to take the full damage of their attack.

Mold Earth

Beginning at 11th level, you can direct your ki into the earth to change and manipulate its form. You may cast the following spells for a number of ki points noted:

mold earth - 0
transmute rock - 6
wall of stone - 6
stoneskin - 5
stone shape - 5
earthquake - 9

4 Point Strike

At 17th level, you have learned true mastery of your art, and can project that through a single, devastating blow. As an action, you may spend 3 ki points to channel your energy up through your body to your head. As you deliver a devastating headbutt to the target, they must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failure, they are reduced to 0 hit points. On a success, they take 10d12 necrotic damage.

To use this attack, you must ensure your mastery is complete. You must make a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or take 10d12 points of necrotic damage.

Rolling Stone

As a master of the Mountain Root, you may engage in a special form of meditation to prepare an unstoppable attack. You may meditate at the peak of a mountain for 8 hours. During this meditation, you must picture in your mind a target, whose location you know. Upon emerging from this meditation, you no longer need to eat, drink, or sleep, and are immune to exhaustion. You must then walk on foot as far as possible (other methods of travel are allowed only where walking is impossible) directly to your target. If these steps are performed, you may invoke your Earth's Defense ability in an empowered manner against this target. The duration increases to 8 hours, and each 2 ki points you spend increases your Strength modifier instead of your Strength score.
