Base Class: Barbarian
Barbarians who follow the Path of the Enraged Defender get angry at the sight of harm and think only of dealing that harm back. Their motto is that a perfect offense is the best defense. You can't be killed by dead enemies.
Retaliating Rage
Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, while raging, when you are dealt damage by an attack that required an attack roll, you may make a weapon attack against the creature that attacked you as a reaction.
Shield Launcher
Beginning at 6th level, you can cast the spell Catapult as a 1st level spell, using your shield as the ammunition (ignore the weight requirements of the spell catapult). You can cast this spell without verbal, or material components and it can be cast while raging. Casting this spell with this feature does not consume a spell slot. Strength is your casting stat for this spell. Once you have cast this spell with this feature it can't be cast again this way until you have completed a short or long rest.
When you reach 10th level, the shield will be returned to the caster after the effects of the spell have taken place and this spell can be cast up to twice per short or long rest.
Rebounding Fury
Beginning at 10th level, when you are dealt damage by an attack that required an attack roll from an enemy or lose in an opposed skill check for any Charisma, Intellect, or Wisdom skill, you gain an anger die. Anger dice can be used to empower your attack rolls, damage, or some skills. Your anger dice have a maximum pool size of 5. Your anger dice start as d4. Upon reaching 14th level, the die size increases to d6, and d8 at 18th level.
Anger dice can ONLY be spent while raging.
Attack Rolls:
When you make an attack roll you may spend an anger die before OR after you learn if the attack roll would hit. You can spend at most 1 anger die on a single attack roll. When spending anger dice in this way, you roll them and add their total to your attack roll.
Damage Rolls:
When you succeed on an attack roll you may spend an anger die to increase the damage of the attack. You can spend at most 2 anger dice on a single damage roll. When spending anger dice in this way add the anger dice to the damage dice when rolling.
Skill Checks:
When making an Intimidation, or any strength based check, you may spend anger dice to increase the total. You can spend at most 1 anger dice on a single intimidation/strength check. When spending anger dice in this way, you roll them and add their total to the skill check total.
In addition, when using the spell catapult with your shield being the ammunition, the shield is returned to you after the spell effect takes place. You also gain an additional casting of catapult to a maximum of 2 castings before a short or long rest.
Bloodlust
Beginning at 14th level, in a state of heightened rage you and your allies all become slightly affected and look for any opportunity to attack your opponent. You and your allies gain the following opportunities to attack. You must be raging for these benefits to take place.
New ways to provoke attacks of opportunity:
- standing from prone within a threatened space
- casting a spell (with a cast time of 1 action) within a threatened space
- dealing damage to the barbarian or an ally with an attack that required an attack roll while in a space threatened by the attacked character
- becoming frightened within a threatened space
In addition, you are now awarded an anger dice when an ally is dealt damage by an attack that required an attack roll. You still retain a maximum of 5 anger dice.
You can use up to two reactions per round while raging. You can only use ONE reaction per turn.
