Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

Where one wizard may choose to focus on one school of magic to master it to perfection, the Elementalist takes a far more wide approach, learning how to alter their spell craft around the elements. While such a wizard cannot transmute as well as a transmuter, or conjure as well as a conjurer, their understanding of the basic building blocks of the world allows their magic to be far more versatile and responsive.

General Savant

As a result of experimenting with the make-up of their spells, Elementalist's possess a deeper understanding of magic's core concepts than most. At 2nd level you gain proficiency in the Arcana skill, and your proficiency bonus becomes doubled whenever you use the Arcana skill.

Elementary Arcane

As an Elementalist, you learn how to substitute certain elements for different ones. At 2nd level, whenever you cast a spell that deals acid, cold, fire, lightning or thunder damage, you can spend a bonus action to substitute that damage type for any other damage type from that list.

Elemental Ward

After spending so much time working with the elements, you have learned how to protect yourself against their worst effects. At 6th level, after spending a long rest you can gain a Elemental Ward, that grants you resistance against either acid, cold, fire, lightning or thunder damage. After finishing a long rest you can also choose to change which damage type your Elemental Ward guards against.

Elemental Lifebinding

You expertise in the elements allows you to learn how to bind the elements of elemental beings to your service. At 10th level you learn the Conjure Elemental spell, if you didn't know it already,  whenever you cast Conjure Elemental or Conjure Minor Elementals you cannot unwillingly lose concentration on those spells. If you lose consciousness while either of those spells are active, the elementals will continue to stay on the field until the spell runs it's course, or you die.

Elementally Aligned

At 14th level you become so attuned to your elements, that you can align to the planes of pure elemental force. As an action you can align to one of acid, cold, fire, lightning or thunder damage types. This lasts for a minute or until your concentration breaks like you were concentrating on a spell. While this is active, whenever you cast a spell you cast that deals damage of your aligned type, you have advantage on the attack roll, if it requires one, or you can designate any number of creatures to have disadvantage on the saving throw against it, if it requires one. Additionally the spell deals an extra 2d10 of the same damage type as the spell. After you come out of this feature, you gain a level of exhaustion. This feature can only be used once, and recharges on a long rest.
