Base Class: Monk
Monks of the Way of the Lightning Dragon transforms their Ki into deadly bolts of lightning. They learn how to use their Ki in ranged offensive attacks and defensive tactics. This archetype is for people hate the lack of lightning based attacks in D&D 5e.
Lightning Dragon's Tail Slash
Beginning at level 3, you gain a resistance to lightning damage.
Beginning at level 3, when you make a melee attack with an unarmed strike or a monk weapon, you can spend 1 Ki point to shroud your attack in lightning. When you do so, the range of your attack extends to 15 feet and deals an extra 1d8 lightning damage. At 5th level, when you get to up cast, you can deal an extra 1d8 lightning damage per Ki point spent.
Lightning of the Lightning Dragon
Beginning at level 5 you can up cast your features. Levels 5-8: max 3 ki points| 9-12: max 4 ki points| 13-16: max 5 ki points| 17-20: max 6 ki points.
Beginning at level 6, by spending 3 Ki points on your action, you can choose a spot within 60 feet of you and cause lightning to shoot out at anyone within 15 feet of the point of origin. Each creature in a 15-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 3d8 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.You can deal an extra 1d8 lightning damage per Ki point spent after 3.
Lightning Dragon's Lightning Bolt
Beginning at 11th level, you can spend 4 Ki points to cast Lightning Bolt. You can spend 1 Ki point to up cast per level.
Lightning Dragon's Scales
Beginning at level 17, as long as you have 5 Ki points left, you become wreathed in magical lightning. You shed bright light in 10 feet of you and dim for an additional 10 feet. Each light extends 10 feet per 5 ki points you have after 5. You can extinguish or restore the light as a bonus action.
If a creature hits you with a melee attack while the lightning is cloaking you, you can use your reaction to deal 1d8 lightning damage to the creature. The creature also takes 1d8 extra lightning damage when hit by you with a melee attack. The creature must be 5 feet from you.
