Base Class: Monk
The Way of the Golden Cicada is a series of martial techniques following the tactics and dao of the divine cicadas. It specializes in survival tactics allowing the practitioners to weather a multitude of disasters and allowing them to continue living in the aftermath, ultimately having the last laugh.
Practitioners enjoy the increased movement and survival ability of this series of techniques; however, suffer from a lacking offensive ability. Those who forge forward in this path of cultivation must hope they are blessed by fortune to find treasures to offset their disadvantages.
Jointed Strikes
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can manipulate your ki. Whenever you hit a creature with one of the attacks granted by your Flurry of Blows, you can impose one of the following effects:
- The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone and their speed is reduced by 5 ft for the rest of the battle.
- You can immediately change the target of the next strike to another enemy of your choice within 10 ft of you, ignoring any attempts of attack of opportunities on your person.
Body of the Golden Cicada
At 6th level, your body becomes more impervious to certain elements and weak to others. You are immune to all poison and lightning damage, while being vulnerable to bludgeoning damage. Additionally, short rests allow you to regain hit points equal to three times your monk level instead of using hit dice.
Cicada Wing
Beginning at 11th level, your ki further changes your body closer to that of the divine cicada. You gain invisible cicada wings that grant you innate 60 ft of fly speed.
Songs of the Cicadas
At 17th level, you gain the technique to implant the cicadas' song in someone’s body. When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can spend 3 ki points to start these vibrations accompanied by a cacophony of cicadas chirping which only the target can hear and feel, which last for a number of days equal to your monk level. The vibrations continually deal 1d4 psychic damage every day unless you use your action to end them prematurely. To do so, you and the target must be on the same plane of existence. When you use this action, the creature must make a Constitution saving throw. If it fails, it is reduced by 90% of their current hit points rounded down. If it succeeds, it takes 7d10 psychic damage.
You can have only one entity under the effect of this feature at a time. You can choose to end the vibrations and chirping without using an action at anytime.
Cicada Counterfeit
At the 17th level, you gain the true understanding of the divine cicada's arts. Once per long rest, you gain the ability to ignore a lethal strike on yourself using a reaction, teleport 50 ft away from the source of the lethal damage, and immediately enter stealth. This leaves behind a thin shell of your person where you were standing.
