Base Class: Monk
A corrupt mage, uncontested till this point, flings a firebolt at a Dwarven Monk, who drops into a stance, diverting it away in one fluid motion. Panicking, the mage casts Ray of Sickness as the Dwarf drops into the stance once more, but instead, this time, takes the magic head on. The mage grins before slowly..... a look of fear forms on her face, as the Monk rushes at her, unharmed from the magic, his fists now shimmering with raw arcane energy as he unleashes a barrage of punches and kicks.
An Elven Monk rushes at a Hobgoblin Sorcerer as he casts a spell, sending an Orb of flame at the Elf's companions. But, before it reaches them, the elves hands suddenly doing a flurry of gestures, expending her ki to influence the weave, as the sorcerers fireball fizzles out before it can reach the rest of her party. She then slams a fist into the crook of the sorcerer's neck, and gestures with her other hand as she does so. The strike, which would usually stun the Hobgoblin, instead sends him staggering back and looking at his palms, a look of dread in his eyes as he feels his connection to the Arcane Weave, and the power within himself, be severed.
A Kalashtar Monk sits cross legged, their eyes closed as they meditate, feeling the pulses and energy of the weave around them, before suddenly snapping their eyes open and jumping into a ready stance as several assassins, weapons glimmering with arcane forces of flame, frost and lightning emerge. They stand off, the air around them feeling..... tense before they all rush at the Monk. The Kalashtar slams their hands together and shouts a word, sending out a pulse of their own Ki into the weave as suddenly.... the arcane forces on the assassin's weapons fade, and they look at one another confused, lashing out at the Monk who deftly dodges all of their blows, before launching a counter attack of their own.
The Way of The Weave Guardian is a unique path for a Monk to take. Known as The Judges of The Weave by some, and Mage Slayers by others, these monks share a purpose and burden in the form of ensuring the weave is not abused by those who would exploit it, while also not striking at those who use it justly. This duty is not an easy one, and often makes these Monks dreaded and unwelcome in communities of spell casters, and misunderstood by many non-spellcasters as well. While few are as radical as to want the use of magic gone entirely, the majority understand that the use of magic is needed to better and protect society, but should not be abused to needlessly harm others to achieve ones goals. Their connection to the weave is absolute, and once they have passed judgement upon a spell slinger, their resolve and drive to see their connection to the weave severed is endless, as they utilize their Ki to restore balance to the Weave.
Deflect Magic
When you take this Monastic Tradition at 3rd level, you learn how to ever so slightly negate attempts to harm you by use of the weave, and even absorb the magical energy so that you can strike at your foes with even more force, and more easily deal with those who would exploit the weave
Whenever you are hit with a Ranged Spell Attack, you can reduce the damage you take from it by 1d10+ Your Wisdom Modifier + Your Monk level as an Reaction. When you use this Reaction and fully reduce the damage from a Ranged Spell Attack, you can spend 1 ki point to cause your first attack with a Monk Weapon or an Unarmed Strike on your next turn to deal an additional amount of Force damage equal to one roll of your martial arts die.
Blessing of the Weave
Starting at 3rd Level, you have learned the basics of the Weave, and can detect any use of it, and identify the effects it produces.
You gain proficiency in the Arcana Skill if you do not already have it, and can now cast the spells Identify and Detect Magic as rituals.
Arcane Disruption
Starting a 6th Level, you learn to use your Ki to manipulate the weave to cancel out the attempts of those who would abuse it, and dispel any effects that they create.
You gain the ability to cast both Counterspell and Dispel Magic by expending Ki points, using Wisdom as your Spellcasting Ability. The base cost to cast either of these spells is 3 ki points, and you can spend additional ki to upcast them at a rate of 1 additional ki point per level. (i.e a 4th Level Counterspell would cost 4 ki, while a 8th Level Dispel Magic would cost 8 ki). Additionally, you can only upcast these spells up to a level equal to your Monk Level divided by 2 (rounded down) to a maximum of 9th level.
Arcane Severance
Starting at 11th Level, you have reached a new level of awareness of to the weave, and can severe the connection of the weave for those who abuse it's gifts, limiting them to only the most basic forms of magic for a time.
Whenever you subject a creature to your stunning strike feature and it fails the saving throw, you can spend 2 additional ki points to, rather than stun it, limit it's spell casting for a time. Whenever you subject a creature to this feature, it suffers the following deficits for 1d4+1 Rounds:
- The creature is no longer able to cast any leveled spells, whether it be through a magical item, innate casting, or racial features. It still can, however, cast any cantrips that it knows, or can cast through a magical item.
- The creature loses concentration on any spells that it was concentrating on, if any.
The creature may repeat the Constitution Saving Throw at the end of each of it's turns, ending the effect early upon a success.
Avatar of Arcane Balance
Starting at 17th Level, you have become the epitome of a proper Guardian of the Weave, fouling the attempts of those who would abuse it's gifts, and ensuring that balance is maintained. You've achieved a whole new understanding of the Weave, and how it is closely connected to your Ki. And thanks to your vigilant duty and service, you now can utilize that connection to it's maximum potential.
You have learned to convert Arcane Energy into Ki, to further fuel your ability to complete your duty and, additionally, you now can utilize your Ki to temporarily severe the area around you from the weave, so that those that would abuse it can no longer do so until you have dealt with them.
Whenever you cast the spells Counterspell and Dispel Magic using ki points, you can siphon off some of the arcane energy and convert it into Ki. Whenever you roll a check to counter or dispel a spell, and you successfully do so, you regain an amount of Ki points equal to Half the spells level, rounded down.
Additionally, you now can cast the spell Antimagic Field without material components once per Long Rest, at the cost of 9 Ki Points.
