Base Class: Barbarian
Some Barbarians believe the only fair fight is fought with your weapons and your fists. Others are simply wary of mages and the unnatural powers they call upon in battle. Either way, the Mage Slayer turns inward and focuses on the self in order to bolster their martial prowess. Taking cues from the fighting styles and spiritual teachings of Monks, the Mage Slayer learns to more finely channel their rage and harness their Ki energy in combat.
Mend Magical Wounds
Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in the Medicine skill, if you do not already have it. Additionally, you have advantage on all Medicine checks made to identify or treat wounds, effects, ailments, or diseases caused by magic.
Ki die
You learn to wield your rage more precisely, allowing you to enhance many of your attacks and abilities. This power is represented by your Ki die, the starting size of which is a d6.
Changing the Die’s Size
If you roll the highest number on your Ki die, it decreases by one die size after the roll. This represents you over-exerting your spiritual energy. For example, if the die is a d6 and you roll a 6, it becomes a d4. If it’s a d4 and you roll a 4, it becomes unusable until you finish a short or long rest.
Conversely, if you roll a 1 on your Ki die, it increases by one die size after the roll, up to its starting size. This represents you being in harmony with your spiritual energy, empowering you. For example, if you roll a 1 on a d4, the die then becomes a d6.
Whenever you finish a short or long rest, your Ki die resets to its starting size. When you reach certain levels in this class, the starting size of your Ki die increases: at 6th level (d8), 10th level (d10), and 14th level (d12).
Some Ki abilities require saving throws. Your save DC for these abilities is 8 + proficency bonus + your Wisdom modifier.
Lastly, your ability to harness your Ki is enhanced while your body is unencumbered. When you are not wearing armor or using a shield, your Ki is considered to be "Unobstructed" and many of your abilities have additional effects.
You can use your Ki die in the following ways:
Centered Resistance
Starting at 3rd level, when you are subject to a Wisdom, Intelligence, or Charisma saving throw, you can roll your Ki die and add that result to the save. You can do this after learning whether or not the initial save succeeded.
Flurry of Blows
Starting at 3rd level while raging, if your Ki die is not already at its minimum size, you can use a bonus action to shrink the Ki die by one size and use Flurry of Blows in the same way as a Monk. If your Ki is unobstructed, you can additionally make one roll of your Ki die and add that result to the damage on the first strike that hits.
Unarmed Strikes
You learn to fight with your bare hands in a manner similar to Monks. While you are Raging, you can make Unarmed Strikes using a martial arts die equivalent to what a Monk of the same level uses, but with Strength as the modifier. If your Ki is unobstructed, you roll two martial arts dice on an Unarmed Strike instead of one. Note: Any Unarmed Strike made as part of Flurry of Blows only uses one martial arts die, even if your Ki is unobstructed.
Ki die increase
Starting at level 6, your Ki die's base size is now a d8.
Improved Centered Resistance
You can now use your Centered Resistance ability for any saving throw.
Deflect Magical Energy
Starting at 6th Level while you are Raging, your Ki can help you deflect certain spells. If you are hit by a spell that makes a Ranged spell attack, you may use your Reaction to attempt to reduce the damage of the spell by a total of (Ki die roll) + Barbarian level + Wisdom modifier. If you successfully reduce it to 0, you can turn the magical energy back on the original caster, causing them to take Force damage equal to the lower of the initial damage rolled against you or your Wisdom modifier + the maximum number on your Ki die's current size.
If your Ki is unobstructed, you may also use this ability when you are hit by a melee spell attack, and if you reduce the damage to 0, you can redirect the magical energy back at the caster or at any other creature you can see within 60 feet of you.
Silencing Strike
Starting at 6th Level while you are Raging, you can interfere with the magical energy in an opponent's body. When you hit another creature with a melee weapon Attack or Unarmed Strike, you can use a bonus action to shrink your Ki die by one size to attempt a silencing strike. The target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or be unable to cast spells that use verbal components until the end of your next turn. If your Ki is unobstructed, the creature makes the save with disadvantage.
Ki die size increase
Starting at level 10, your Ki die's base size is now a d10.
Master of Centered Resistance
You now have advantage on all saving throws against magical effects.
Centered Evasion
At 10th level, your instinctive agility lets you dodge out of the way of certain area Effects, such as a blue dragon's lightning breath or a Fireball spell. While you are Raging and subjected to an Effect that allows you to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, you can use your Reaction to treat yourself as if you have the Evasion feature and instead take no damage if you succeed on the saving throw, and only half damage if you fail. You can only use this feature once per long rest unless you choose to shrink your Ki die to use it again. If your Ki is unobstructed, you may shrink your Ki die by one size to treat a roll of anything other than 1 as a successful save.
Ki die size increase
Starting at level 14, your Ki die's base size is now a d12.
Brutal Spirit
You have learned how to channel your Ki energy directly into raw force. Once per turn while you are Raging, you can add up to two rolls of your Ki die to the damage of one of your attacks. If your Ki is unobstructed, you can reroll the Ki die on one or both rolls and take either result, as in the Savage Attacker feat. If you roll your maximum number as a result of the reroll, your Ki die size does not shrink. If the initial Ki die roll was maximum, your Ki die size shrinks as normal.
Centered Mind, Body, and Soul
You can now shrink your Ki die by two sizes to automatically succeed on any saving throw. Additionally, while Raging and when you take any damage except for psychic you can, as a Reaction, treat yourself as if you have Resistance to that damage. You can only use this feature once per long rest unless you choose to shrink your Ki die to use it again.
If your Ki is unobstructed, your spirit is strong enough to fully negate certain types of damage. If the damage you would take is Acid, Fire, Cold, Lightning, or Thunder, you can use your Reaction to shrink your Ki die by one size to instead give yourself immunity, taking no damage at all.
