Base Class: Druid
The Druid who enjoys being in beast shape more than their own skin often are drawn to the Circle of the Beast King. No one in the circle now can truly claim the title of Beast King. Long ago a Druid split from the Circle of the Moon to form this Circle. She was the first and only true Beast King. She taught others to to use a special aura to remain in beast shape and shift between form as she did and the circle grew. It is still the smallest of all Druid circles.
Beast King Wild Shape
When you choose this circle at 2nd level, you gain the ability to use Wild Shape and your beast form last for a number of hours equal to your Druid level. Also you don't revert from your beast shape if you fall unconscious. Having 0 hit points or dying still cause you to revert.
Additionally, the rites of your circle grant you the ability to speak directly to the mind of a humanoid while you are transformed into a beast. While in a beast shape obtained through your Wild Shape you can communicate with a humanoid telepathically as long as they are in direct contact with you. They must understand at least one language. They will I understand your thoughts as whispers in their known language, but they can not respond telepathically.
Beast King Aura
The rites of your circle grant you an invisible protective aura and the ability to switch beast shapes while that aura is present.
Starting at 2nd level when you complete a long rest you gain Beast King temporary hit points. 4 per Druid level. These temporary hit points are only active while in a Wild Shape transformation.
As long as you have at least 1 Beast King temporary hit point you can switch between beast shapes while using your Wild Shape. If you revert to your humanoid form it ends the switching ability, and deactivates the temporary hit points. This means you can't switch from wolf> humanoid> owl, because your humanoid form is not apart of your Wild Shape. You can switch wolf> owl> bear> wolf or any combination of beast that you can transform into. You could use Wild Shape to transform into a bear> wolf> bear> owl revert to humanoid then expend another use of Wild Shape and continue to use the switching ability as long as you have at least 1 Beast King temporary hit point. The time your Wild Shape last starts with the first transformation and switching does not extend that time. You can still extend it by expending another use of Wild Shape.
Note: At 2nd level the CR of a bear is above the forms you can take, it was just an example.
At 10th level, you have learned to use your Beast King Aura more often and more effectively. The temporary hit points are restored after a short or long rest. Additionally the Beast King temporary hit points count towards your total current hit points while in a beast form to prevent negative effects like Sleep and Power Word from taking effect.
Magical Aura
Starting at 6th level, you choose a magic type and your Beast King Aura becomes visible emminating magical energy around your Wild Shape Form. You can make the Aura visible or invisible as a bonus action as long as your Beast King Aura is active. Additionally as long as your Beast King Aura is active (even when not visible) your attacks in beast form count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage and you deal 1d4 damage of your chosen type.
You may choose fire, lightning, cold, radiant or necrotic. The visible Aura gives off 5 ft of dim light. The air within 5ft of a fire, lightning, or radiant aura is slightly warmer. The air within 5ft of a cold or necrotic aura is slightly colder.
Cold
Your Aura is icy.
Fire
Your Aura is fiery.
Lightning
Your Aura is shocking.
Necrotic
Your Aura is shadowy.
Radiant
Your Aura glimmers.
Beast King Speaks
The rites of your circle grant you the ability to speak in your Wild Shape Transformations. Your voice is altered depending on the beast shape, but you are able to speak any language you know well enough to be understood and can speak loud enough to be heard 30 ft away. Additionally, beasts of the same type as your current beast shape can understand your speech, and you gain the ability to decipher their noises and motions. Most beasts lack the intelligence to convey or understand sophisticated concepts, but a friendly beast could relay what it has seen or heard in the recent past. If your Beast King Aura is active beast of the same type as your current beast form will view you as a superior. They are more likely to help you but aren't obedient servants and will quickly return to there normal lives if you lead them too far from home, or put them in danger.
Beast King Strike
At the 14th level you learn to channel greater power into your strikes, once per turn when you hit a creature while in your beast form with a melee attack, you can expend one spell slot to deal additional damage of same type as your Aura to the target. The extra damage is 2d8 for a 1st-level spell slot, plus 1d8 for each spell-level higher than 1st, to a maximum of 5d8. This can also be done on a reaction even in rounds it was already used on your turn.
Beast King Proficiency
At 3rd level you can add half your proficiency bonus rounded down to attack rolls while in Wild Shape beast forms.
Starting at 9th level you can add your full proficiency bonus to attack rolls while in Wild Shape beast forms.
Note:
Don't complicate the math by trying to remove the beast proficiency bonus. If at 3rd lvl the beast form has a +4 to hit in the stat block add half your proficiency rounded down +1 for a total of +5 to hit. This is balanced because Beast King Druid will never be over CR 1 Beast.
