Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of The Way of Excellece take pride in pushing their bodies beyond the limits that other people believe themselves to have. Through rigorous training and pensive meditation they are able to withstand much greater damage, pain and exhaustion than others they know. Many of these monks come from mountainous regions where they are taught the values of bodily control and the virtue of underfeeding. Other monasteries are found in and around militant states and only teach those that have already proven themselves to be hardy individuals.

Advantageous Striker

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can use your ki to give yourself an edge in any situation. As part of an action, you can spend 1 ki point to give yourself advantage on an attack roll or ability check. In addition, when forced to make a saving throw, you may use your reaction to spend 2 ki points and give yourself advantage on the roll.

When using this feature, if you already have disadvantage, it cancels out to a regular roll.

Hard Hitter

At 3rd level, you learn to use your ki to hit harder than ever before. When using your unarmed attack action, on a confirmed hit, you may spend 1 ki point to roll one extra damage die.

Spending your ki in this way is difficult to master, therefore you may only spend one ki point for one extra damage die on each of your turns.

Bonus Proficiencies

When choosing this class at 3rd level, you get bonus proficienies with the spear and contitution saving throws.

Hardy Spirit

Beginning at 6th level, you have hardened your body and soul against the harshness of the world. You are now resistant to bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage from nonmagical weapons. In addition you may use your action to spend 3 ki points and give yourself resistance to another type of damage for one hour.

When using this feature you can make yourself resistant to the following types of damage: cold, fire, force, necrotic and psychic

Hard Hitter Improvement

At 6th level you have mastered using your ki to add weight to your punches. You may now use the 3rd level feature Hard Hitter on both attacks using your Attack in addition to your Extra Attack, each use costing you one ki point.

One More Mile

At 11th level, you can use your ki to bolster yourself for more punishment. When being forced to take a point of exhaustion, you may use your reaction to spend 4 ki points and resist the exhaustion. You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1).

Using your ki in this way cannot reverse exhaustion already suffered, and must be removed by taking a long rest.

Vengeful Striker

When reaching 17th level you learn to use your pain and share it with your enemies.

When under the effects of the 6th level feature  Hardy Spirit and take damage that you are resistant to, you are able to use it to fuel your next attack in two ways:

  • Reaction: You may use your reaction to do an unarmed strike and spend 1 ki point to do a revenge strike. If it hits, it deals your standard martial arts damage as well as the effects of Inflict Wounds, which deals damage of the corresponding type (i.e. cold if hit with cold, etc).
  • Action: You may spend 3 ki points to contain the damaging energy inside yourself for a bit longer and release it with a harder impact. On your next turn, if you hit a creature using an unarmed strike it deals martial arts damage as well as the effects of a 2nd level Inflict Wounds that deals damage of the corresponding type. You may get this effect with both attacks using your Attack if you hit, however, if not used until the end of your turn, the energy inside you fizzles out and you lose the possibility to do a revenge strike.

In addition, a creature hit in this way must make a Constitution saving throw, if it fails, the target's speed is reduced to 10 and the creature cannot use any spells or magical abilities until the end of it's next turn.
