Base Class: Barbarian
A nimble snake scurries away from an oncoming hawk. The hawk follows it through the brush, and for a moment, loses sight of it. At that very moment, the snake strikes, swiftly cutting down its predator and living to see another day. Such is the Path of the Prey.
Deep in the woods, dark at night, if one wishes to survive, rage is not enough. Survival means much more than rushing into combat and taking heavy damage. It is fear that has guided our ancestors and ourselves to survival.
When following the Path of the Prey, these barbarians put aside their enraged tendencies in favor of a primal fear that brings them to survive at all costs.
Fight or Flight
When attempting to survive, one must make decisions in an instant. Even the most primal creatures know that there are two responses to fear.
Fight: While in a rage, on its turn, the user can take the Dodge action as a bonus action. If a creature misses the user while it is Dodging, the user can use its reaction to make an Attack of Opportunity against that creature.
Flight: While in a rage, on its turn, the user can take the Disengage action as a bonus action.
Apprehensive Attack
Survival requires striking at the right times and escaping at opportune moments.
While in a rage, once on its turn, when the user makes an attack against a creature, the user can move up to an extra 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks.
Deceptive Tactics
Escaping predators takes more than running. Often, the prey will either attempt to blend in with its surroundings, or to attempt to seem like other creatures.
The user must choose between two deceptive tactics.
Camouflage
The user can add double its proficiency bonus to Stealth checks and while raging can Hide as a bonus action. The user can cast Pass Without Trace once per short rest. This does not count towards its total spell count.
Mimicry
The user can add double its proficiency bonus to Deception checks and while raging can Hide as a bonus action. The user can cast Alter Self once per short rest. This does not count towards its total spell count.
Prey Becomes Predator
After biding its time and surviving, the prey finally finds a chance to strike back.
While in a rage, the user has advantage to hit creatures that have made attacks against it since its last turn. Against said creatures, all melee attacks overcome resistances and deal an extra 1d6 damage of the same type. The user can cast Hunter's Mark twice per long rest.
At 18th level, said melee attacks instead deal an extra 2d6 damage of the same type.
