Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

While some Rangers oppose modern technology, the Globewanderer Conclave embrace it, travelling the world with their advanced Feathergliders. They have seen many exotic places and come prepared for a round-the-world adventure, equipped for whatever might happen.

Globewanderer Magic

Starting at 3rd, you learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Globewanderer Spells table. The spell counts as a ranger spell for you, but it doesn't count against the number of ranger spells you know.

Ranger Level       Spells

  • 3rd                 Comprehend Languages
  • 5th                 Locate Object
  • 9th                 Tongues
  • 13th               Freedom of Movement
  • 17th               Control Winds

Travelling in Style

At 3rd level, you gain a Featherglider, which can be used to travel the world. Feathergliders are essentially items with the spell Fly stored within them. They look roughly like handheld drones or helicopter blades, and grant a flying speed of 15 feet. As an action, you can expend one of their magical charges (which work differently in the Terra Nova setting) to gain a flying speed of 40 feet. For longer distances, you can spend two hours modifying and checking the Featherglider such that it carries an entire party and can travel three globe-squares before needing to be refueled. This cannot be used in battle, because it takes thirty minutes to launch a full flight.

Traveller's Knowledge

Also at third level, you gain numerous smaller benefits:

  • You gain proficiency in Intelligence (History/Culture) checks. If you already have a proficiency in these checks, your proficiency bonus is doubled.
  • You know more about four cities of your choice. This includes layout, where to eat and stay, and how to travel quickly. The effects of this are open-ended, but include the City Secrets perk.
  • You don't suffer ill effects from hot or cold climates.
  • You gain proficiency with Navigator's Tools.
  • You can speak an extra language properly, and know key phrases in three others.

Travelling Gear

At 7th level, you gain some useful items for travel, including a compass which points the way to anything which has been mapped (so, not the lost city of Atlantis) and has not been purposely hidden (so, not the antagonist's secret lair). You also gain a reduced-capacity Bag of Holding, which is large enough to fit one Medium humanoid, or anything else that size. This item can be returned to you wherever you are, even if it is being securely held. The last item you gain is a World Map which can be used to teleport to a few major landmarks (one per major world capital for Terra Nova).

Upgraded Featherglider

At 11th level, your skill with the Featherglider improves. Your base Featherglider speed becomes 40, the Travel mode Featherglider travels 6 world-squares without refueling, the Featherglider takes the same amount of fuel to gain six charges, and you can expend one charge of the Featherglider to automatically roll a 15 on a Dexterity saving throw.

Wanderer of the World

At 15th level, the two restrictions on the Compass are removed, and the map can be used to take you to any marked location. Usually, cities and natural points of interest are the only places marked on world maps.
