Base Class: Wizard
Eschewing focusing on the traditional schools of magic, you instead sought out the teachings of the archmage Kevin. Kevin founded the tradition of Scrollmastery, which took full advantage of his unique ability to create spell scrolls nearly instantly. Focusing on speed and vast array of spells, Kevin chose to sacrifice specificity, creating his signature random casting style.
As a Scrollmaster, you tirelessly practiced scroll making to follow in Kevin's footsteps.
Bag O' Mystery
As part of your studies, you create a bag to aid in creating and using your special scrolls when you adopt this arcane tradition at the 2nd level.
The bag has the following properties:
- While wearing the bag, you can use it as a spellcasting focus for you wizard spells.
- The bag is used to create the scrolls used in the Scrollcasting feature. You cannot use this feature if you don't have access to your bag.
- The bag functions as an extra-dimensional space, allowing it to expand its interior to accommodate its contents.
- The only other objects the Bag can store are normal spell scrolls. A specific, normal spell scroll can be withdrawn from the bag as a free action. These scrolls, however, cannot be used by the Scrollcasting feature.
If your Bag of Mystery is lost or destroyed, you can perform a ritual to create a new one. The ritual has a cast time of 1 hour and a material cost of a mundane bag, which becomes the new Bag of Mystery. Once completed, the old bag, along with its contents, is destroyed.
Scrollcasting
You have learned to replicate Kevin's powers, albeit to a lesser degree.
Starting at the 2nd level, as an action, you use your Bag of Mystery to create a Special Spell Scroll, which you then pull from the bag and immediately use. The spell inscribed on the scroll is randomly chosen from your Scrollcasting pool. This pool consists of every cantrip you know, every spell in your spellbook, and any other spells added to your pool by the Spells of Kevin, Boundless potential, or Unlimited Knowledge features. The spell follows the following conditions:
- Casting the spell does not consume a spell slot.
- The spell has a cast time of 1 action, regardless of its typical cast time.
- If the spell does not normally have a somatic component, it does when cast through the Scrollcasting feature.
- The spell does not require material components, including those that have a gp value.
- If the spell is a cantrip, it is cast at your level (Ex. a level 5 Scrollmaster's [Tooltip Not Found] would deal 2d10 fire damage).
- If the spell is level 1 or higher, it is cast at its base level (Ex. fireball is cast at the 3rd level).
- You must have a spell slot of the necessary level to cast the spell, otherwise it fails (the spell slot can be spent).
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (min. 1) per long rest.
Scroll Crafter
Due to your years of practice, scroll crafting is much simpler for you than most other spell casters.
Starting at the 2nd level, the amount of time and resource cost required to create a spell scroll is halved for you.
Spells of Kevin
Kevin was known for his signature spells. All Scrollmasters gain knowledge of these spells to pay homage to their archmage.
At the 6th level, the following spells are added to your Scrollcasting pool, and can only be cast using the Scrollcasting feature: catapult, comprehend languages, grease, jump, zone of truth, catnap, stinking cloud, Mordenkainen's private sanctum, Bigby's hand, heroes' feast.
Empowered Scrollcasting
You've learned to empower the scrolls you create at the risk of the spell backfiring.
Starting at the 6th level, when you use the Scrollcasting feature to cast a 1st-level or higher spell, you can spend an additional use of the Scrollcasting feature to empower it by casting the spell as if you used a higher level spell slot. You can choose to cast the spell at a higher level slot than you have. When you do this, roll 1d10. If the value is equal to or greater than the level you are casting the spell at, the spell is cast as normal. If it is lower than the level, the spell either fails, or backfires in some way up to the Dungeon Master's discretion. This feature cannot be used to empower 9th-level spells, or empower a spell past the 9th-level.
You can choose to use the feature after the spell being cast by Scrollcasting is randomly determined.
Boundless Potential
Legend says that Kevin was able to replicate the effects of magic outside the bounds of typical wizardry. You have learned to do so as well.
Starting at the 10th level, you are able to add spells from other classes to your Scrollcasting pool. To learn a spell, you must find someone that knows the spell to teach it to you. The time required to learn a spell from a class other than wizard is a number of days equal to the spell's level, assuming you learn for 8 hours per day (min. 1 day). You must also have the necessary spell slots to cast the spell.
Once learned, you can then cast the spell as a wizard spell, using your Intelligence as the spellcasting modifier. The spell can only be cast through the Scrollcasting feature.
Unlimited Knowledge
You have an innate sense for arcane magic akin to the greatest of wizards: Kevin.
Starting at the 14th level, when using the Scrollcasting feature, every spell on the wizard spell list is added to your Scrollcasting pool.
Additionally, you no longer need to have a spell slot of the requisite level to cast a spell in this way.
