Bard
Base Class: Bard

Bards who follow the College of Virtuosity are masters of their craft. No matter where they go, what instrument they use, or who they are, they can strike awe with their shows.

Instrumental Bond

When you join the college at 3rd level, you have a special bond to your bardic magic. You can use your action to create an instrument made from the weave of magic in your empty hand. You can choose the form that this instrument takes each time you create it. You are proficient with it while you hold it.

Your bardic instrument disappears if it is more than 5 feet away from you for 1 minute or more. It also disappears if you use this feature again, if you dismiss the instrument (no action required), or if you die.

You transform one instrument you are proficient with into your bardic instrument by infusing your magic into it. You perform the infusion over the course of 1 hour, which can be done during a short rest. You can then dismiss the instrument, shunting it into an extradimensional space, and you can summon it when you create your bardic instrument thereafter. The bond with your instrument ceases if you die, if you perform the 1-hour infusion on a different instrument, or if you spend 1-hour to break your bond to it. The instrument appears at your feet if it is in the extradimensional space when the bond breaks.

You may perform an hour long ritual to transfer any applicable (almost all magic can transfer but as an example, high quality metal cannot transfer into a wooden instrument and still provide a bonus) characteristics of an instrument you posses to your bonded instrument. Your bonded instrument becomes a mechanically identical copy (for all applicable characteristics) of the original temporarily losing any abilities it had before. This transformation lasts as long as you wish and ends though transferring characteristics of another instrument, losing possession (defined as getting sold or being more than 100ft away from you) of the instrument (in which over the course of 2 hours your bonded instrument returns to normal), or though a 1 hour ritual to undo the transfer. The original instrument losses all transferred characteristics for as long as the transfer lasts. Your bonded instrument retains its original appearance, although you may choose to have it change in subtle ways to reflect what is has absorbed at any one time.

Touch of Music

Once you reach 3rd level, you gain the ability to use your music as a conduit for spells that normally require close contact with another creature. The range for your touch spells increases to 15 feet, as long as you can see the creature and it can hear you.

When you reach 8th level, the range increases by 5 feet, and again at 13th and 18th level.

Song of Inspiration

Starting at 6th level, you can perform a song of virtuosic ability, using magic to guide your playing. You know the spell Song of Inspiration.

Virtuoso

You are a master of performing, able to find inspiration whenever you play. When you reach 14th level, your bardic instrument assists in finding new inspiration. You gain the following benefits while holding your bardic instrument:

  • You can choose yourself as a target for your Bardic Inspiration feature.
  • When you make a Performance check to play your bardic instrument, you may do so with advantage.
