Base Class: Monk
Monks of this tradition consume a legendary heart shaped herb as part of a very secretive and sacred ritual. The ritual involves a burial of the body which allows the consciousness to journey to the Ancestral Plane on vision quest. This vision quest is a trial in which one's ancestors guide them to their spirit animal. Not all who undertake the trial survive. Those who do not survive stay buried. Those who do awake are gifted with heightened senses and enhanced abilities, and can eventually learn to enter the Ancestral Plane through mediation.
Monks of this tradition normally adorn themselves with totems, clothing, and/or weapons that represent their spirit animal.
Awakend
When you choose this monastic tradition at 3rd level, you have consumed the heart-shaped herb and survived the trial. The herb enhances your abilities and senses. You gain the following benefits.
- You gain darkvision out to a range of 60 feet. If you already have darkvision your range is doubled.
- You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell. This sense of smell is so refined that you can spend 1 ki point to gain advantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks to determine if a creature is lying.
- You can use your Wisdom modifier in place of your Strength modifier when determining jump distances, and when making Strength checks and Strength saving throws.
Quickened Healing
At 3rd level you also gain the ability to heal cuts and broken bones far faster than a normal person would be able to. As an action, you can spend 2 ki points and roll a Martial Arts die. You regain a number of hit points equal to the number rolled. (Note: This is a UA-Class Variant Feature. If your DM allows this ability to be adopted as part of the Monks normal level progression, ignore this ability.)
Instinctive Hunter
Starting at 6th level, you can add your Wisdom modifier to your initiative. You can also spend 2 ki points to cast the spell Hunters Mark. If you expend 3 Ki points, you can maintain your concentration on the spell for up to 8 hours.
Ancestral Plane
At 11th level, as you meditate during a short rest, you can enter the Ancestral Plane. When you do so, you cast the Divination spell, without using a spell slot or material components. Rather than contacting a god or a god’s servants, you consult with your ancestors through a spiritual vision. Once you use this feature it can’t be used again until you complete a Long rest.
Chosen King
At 17th level, you can draw upon the knowledge, strength, and experience of every previous Monk of the Heart Shaped Herb. Your Wisdom and Dexterity scores increase by 4. Your maximum for these scores is now 24.
