Base Class: Ranger
While most enclaves place a ranger out in the wilderness, the Sellsword is equally at home in the urban sprawl, if not more so. Your prey is bounties rather than beasts, you leap from rooftops rather than treetops, you navigate winding alleys instead of winding caves. The sellsword is an expert in hunting humanoids, but they still possess the deadly skill of a ranger against other sorts of prey.
Ways and Means
At 3rd level, you gain the ability to know exactly what questions to ask when tracking your quarry through a village, town or city. Whenever you finish a long rest in a settlement, you can gain the following information about any humanoid that you either know the name or a general description of:
- If they passed through the location.
- How long ago they arrived, how long they stayed, and when they left.
- Where they were heading when they left.
Close Quarters Combatant
At 7th level, you have honed your skills to allow you to better fight in narrow confines such as alleyways and buildings, using the cramped environment to your advantage, ricocheting attacks off walls and obstacles. When you make a weapon attack against a creature within 5 feet of an object, obstacle or wall, you may use your reaction to re-roll the attack. You must decide to re-roll before you know if the attack hits or misses and you must take the second result.
Chase Down
At 11th level, you have become deadly at cutting down enemies as they attempt to evade you. The first attack you make after you move has advantage provided you are a distance of at least half your speed from where you started your movement. If that distance is equal to or greater than your speed, that attack also scores a critical hit on a result of a 19 or 20.
Combat Improvisation
At 15th level, you have developed a series of deadly improvised weapon attacks that allow you to make best use of your weapons at your disposal.
- Any melee weapon you are holding that doesn't have the heavy or two-handed property counts as having the thrown property with a normal range of 20 feet and a long range of 60 feet.
- When you make a ranged weapon attack with a longbow or shortbow, you may first use your bonus action to make a weapon attack with the arrow against one creature within 5 feet of you. The weapon count as a simple melee weapon that you are proficient with and does d4 piercing damage. If the target of this attack is the only hostile creature within 5 feet of you, they don't impose disadvantage on your ranged attack
