Base Class: Barbarian
This is a variant of the barbarian paths that takes great advantage of the roleplaying side of 5th edition DnD, while still offering a new angle to the barbarian class in combat. This subclass works best for characters with sub-par Intelligence scores (10 or lower) and medium Wisdom scores (around 13) , as a starting point.
As part of an elaborate joke to entertain themselves, the Gods of Trickery have played a trick on you. Through deceitful visions you are led to belive that you've been chosen by a god to be the spiritual leader of your people. Wielding divine power, being none the wiser, you walk down the path of trickery.
During your most recent adventures, a chain of certain faithful events, stringed too close together for it to be a coincidence, have made a dent in your memory. In the nights that followed, your dreams became unusually vivid. These strokes of faith come to you again and again. Until one night, in your sleep, a distant voice calls out to you. You look around to find yourself within what you would describe as a paradise. And there, the voice now loud and clear calls to you once more. You turn to meet a divine visage. The strong and stern Stormlord, or the radiant and aweinspiring Dawnfather, or perhpas the calm and graceful Earthmother, stand before you with a worm smile and extended arms. They explain how happy they are that you have finally answered their calls and lead you further in this divine realm. They proceed to tell you all about those faithful events and, just as you expected, confirm their divine purpose. They explain to you the importance of your past and future deeds on the mortal planes and present you with their divine symbol. You swear an oath to this deity as your dream fades and you wake up with the same symbol in your hand.
Divine Satire - Spellcasting
Your deity ocasionally grants you access to divine magic.
Path Spells
Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, you gain access to a list of path spells. You learn these spells at the following Barbarian levels:
- 3rd level: Disguise Self, Purify Food and Drink
- 6th level: Calm Emotions, Locate Object
- 9th level: Dispel Magic, Blink
Casting Path Spells
You don't gain spell slots. Instead you can attempt to cast a path spell, without using a spell slot or material components, by succeeding on a Wisdom saving throw, DC equals to 11 + the spell's level. On a failed saving throw the spell does not take effect.
Once you attempt to cast a spell in this way, regardless of the outcome, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest, during which time you must spend at least 10 minutes in prayer to your deity. Starting at 10th level, you can make two attempts before a long rest.
Spellcasting Ability
Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your path spells. You use your Wisdom whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Wisdom modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a path spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.
Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier
Spell Attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier
Hand of God
Your deity has given you the power to heal the wounds of others.
Starting also at 3rd level, as an action you can make an unarmed melee attack against another creature. On hit the target takes 1 + your Strenght modifier bludgeoning damage and simultaniously regains 2d4 + your Wisdom modifier hit points. You can use this feature twice before finishing a long rest.
When you reach 6th level in this class, and again at 10th and 14th, you add an additional 1d4 to the healing roll.
Holy Rage
By 6th level, you let god guide you in combat.
While ragin, the first non-celestial, non-construct creature you hit with a weapon attack on each of your turns has to make an Intelligence saving throw. You use the spellcasting DC granted by your Divine Satire feature. On a failed saving throw the creature has disadvantage on it's next attack. If you score a critical hit with the attack the creature automatically fails the saving throw.
Additionally, you can now cast spells and maintain concentration while raging.
Force of Will
At 10th level, your willpower impresses even the gods.
You gain proficiency in Wisdom saving throws and whenever you make a Wisdom saving throw you can treat a d20 roll of 9 or lower as a 10. (excluding critical failures)
Power of The Chosen
At 14th level, your divine purpose manifests in your rage.
While raging, you gain resistance to radiant damage and your critical hits deal additional radiant damage equal to half your barbarian level (rounded down).
