Base Class: Wizard
For the wizard who wants to use shields. Because sometimes a regular shield is better than a spell. These mages use their magic to protect friends and allies in dangerous situations.
Magic Shield
Starting at 2nd level, you gain proficiency with shields. After you acquire a shield, you can spend 1 hour attuning to it, (this can be done during a short or long rest). Once attuned, this shield grants its usual bonus to your AC, doesn't hinder your ability to cast spells, and can be used as your spellcasting focus. If your shield is destroyed or missing, you can easily attune a new one.
In addition, you learn the Shield spell, if you don't already know it. You always have it prepared, and it doesn't count against the number of spells you can normally prepare. Also, when you cast Shield, it has a range of 30 feet and you can target a creature other than yourself.
Anti-Magic Runes
Starting at 6th level, you learn how to inscribe anti-magic runes onto your shield. When you are targeted by a spell or spell-like effect that would require a saving throw, you can use your reaction to raise your shield. When you do this, you can a bonus to the relevant saving throw equal to +5. This bonus is reduced by 1 each time you use this feature. If you reduce the bonus to 0, you must finish a long rest before you can use it again. Otherwise, you regain all uses after a long rest. Additionally, you can expend two of these charges to cast Dispel Magic.
Magical Protection
Starting at 10th level, whenever you cast an abjuration spell of 1st level or higher, you gain a temporary bonus to your AC equal to the level you cast the spell. This effect lasts until the beginning of your next turn.
Superior Magic Shield
Starting at 14th level, the bonus granted by your Anti-Magic Runes is increased to +8. Also, when you activate your anti-magic runes, all creatures within 10 feet of you affected by the same spell (or spell-like effect) also benefit from your bonus. (this doesn't reduce your bonus any more than normal)
In addition, the range at which you can cast Shield is increased to 60 feet.
