Monk
Base Class: Monk

Many monks spend a lot of time focusing on their martial abilities and the connection to and control of their inner ki as well as the ki that resides in others. However the Arcane Hunter monastery deemed it appropriate to study the arcane as their main purpose is to hunt down and exterminate evil mages. Understanding of and use of magic is important for the effective hunt and capture of these mages. As such, these monks are adept spell casters as well as proficient martial combatants.

Spellcasting

Spellcasting When you reach 3rd level, you gain the ability to cast spells. See chapter 10 for the general rules of spellcasting and chapter 11 for the wizard spell list.

Cantrips. You learn two cantrips of your choice from the wizard spell list. You learn another wizard cantrip of your choice at 10th level.

Spell Slots. The Eldritch Knight (Fighter) Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your wizard spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell's level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest. For example, if you know the 1st-level spell charm person and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast charm person using either slot.1

Spells Known of 1st-Level and Higher. You know three 1st-level wizard spells of your choice on the wizard spell list. The Spells Known column of the Eldritch Knight (Fighter) Spellcasting table shows when you learn more wizard spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level. Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the wizard spells you know with another spell of your choice from the wizard spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots.

Spellcasting Ability. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for your wizard spells, since you learn your spells through dedicated study and memorization. You use your Intelligence whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Intelligence modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a wizard spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spellcasting Focus. You may spend an 1 hour ritual with a pair of Brass Knuckles in your possession to turn them into a spellcasting focus for your spells. This can be done with any pair of Brass Knuckles magic or mundane but does not turn mundane into magic for the purpose of overcoming resistances.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier

Arcane Path

There are two types of monks that are part of the Arcane Hunter Monastery. Starting at 3rd level you pick one of these paths that bolster how you use your magic in combat.

Additionally, you become proficient in Arcana.

Way of the Defense

Monks who focus on using magic to bolster their defenses to better deal with the onslaught from their enemies. The below spells are considered spells known and are not counted against the number of spells known.

Level 3: Blade Ward

Level 3: Armor of Agathys

Level 7: Enhance Ability

Level 13: Beacon of Hope

Level 19: Death Ward

Additionally, you may spend 1 Ki point, to cast Blade Ward as a bonus action.

Way of the Offense

Monks who use their magic to bolster their attacks and combat prowess. The below spells are considered spells known and are not counted against the number of spells known.

Level 3: Primal Savagery

Level 3: Inflict Wounds

Level 7: Flame Blade

Level 13: Elemental Weapon

Level 19: Shadow of Moil

Additionally, you may spend 1 Ki point to cast Primal Savagery as a bonus aciton.

Arcane Strike

At 6th level, you gain the ability to deliver any melee spell attack using a melee weapon attack as you channel the energy through one of your strikes. You do not apply the additional damage of the strike. This only applies to the attack roll, if the spell would add a damage modifier, you must still use your Intelligence modifier.

Additionally, whenever you cast a cantrip, you can use a bonus action to make an unarmed strike or spend a Ki point to use your Flurry of Blows feature.

Arcane Lore

The Arcane Hunter monastery has taught you what clues to look for when trying to gather information about spellcasters and what they may be trying to accomplish. Starting at 11th level, should you come across the lab of a spellcaster, arcane books, or are in a library trying to get details on a spellcaster, you may make the Arcana or History check at advantage to gather the pertinent information of who the spellcaster is or what they are trying to accomplish should that information be prevalent in the source material.

Arcane Resistance

Starting at 11th level you gain advantage on saves against spells and other magical effects and resistance to the damage of spells and other magical effects.

Arcane Reflection

Starting at 17th level, you can use your reaction to reflect a spell cast by another caster. To do so, you must see or hear the caster in the process of casting a spell and the caster must be within 60ft of you. Make a spellcasting ability check against a DC equal to 10+target spell level. On a success you reflect the effects of the spell onto the caster.

You may spend a number of Ki point equal to your proficiency bonus to augment this check gaining a modifier to the roll equal to the number of Ki points spents. You must determine the number of points spent before making the roll.

You may only do this a number of times per short or long rest equal to your intelligence modifier.
