Base Class: Bard
Dawncallers are goliath bards responsible for guarding their tribe throughout the night. They patrol the darkness at the edge of a sleeping goliath camp, keeping the many monsters of the mountains away while the other goliaths rest. In the morning, they awaken the rest of the tribe with stirring songs of goliath bravery.
Almost every tribe has at least one dawncaller, and it’s not uncommon for a tribe to have as many as a half-dozen. They are rarely found apart from their tribe, although some dawncallers leave goliath society due to injury or a falling-out with other tribe members.
Bonus Proficiencies
When you become a Dawncaller you gain proficiency with Medium Armor, Shields, and One Martial Weapon of your choice as well as gaining the ability to use that melee weapon as a spell-casting focus. This is due to the fact that Dawncallers not only had to be versed in the arts of music, but combat as well; they needed to protect their tribe at their most vulnerable hours throughout the night.
Fighting Style
At 3rd level, choose one of the following options. You can't take a Fighting Style option more than once, even if something in the game lets you choose again.
Defense
While you are wearing armor, you gain a +1 bonus to AC.
Dueling
When you are wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls with that weapon.
Great Weapon Fighting
When you roll a 1 or 2 on a damage die for an attack you make with a melee weapon that you are wielding with two hands, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll, even if the new roll is a 1 or a 2. The weapon must have the two-handed or versatile property for you to gain this benefit.
Stirring Songs
Starting at 3rd level, Dawncallers can sing an inspiring song to their nearby allies, providing boons to the weary, weak, and doubtful and boosting morale. On your turn, as an action you can choose to expend one of your uses of bardic inspiration and concentrate your efforts and magical essence to sing one of the songs you know. Higher level Dawncallers have access to more songs.
All songs end on a failed concentration check, unless stated otherwise.
Inspire Courage
At 3rd level a dawncaller can use this song to inspire courage in his allies (including himself), bolstering them against fear and improving their combat abilities. To be affected, an ally must be able to hear the dawncaller sing. The effect lasts as long as the ally hears the dawncaller sing and for 5 rounds thereafter. An affected ally receives a bonus equal to saving throws against charm and fear effects, and to weapon attack and damage rolls.
Bonus = Bard level divided by 4, rounded up.
Inspire Fury
A dawncaller of 9th level or higher use this music to turn his allies into furious berserkers. Each ally within 30 feet who can hear the dawncaller sing can choose to enter a rage on her turn. This rage functions identically to a barbarian's rage, except that it ends automatically if the dawncaller stops singing. If the ally already has the ability to rage, she can choose to apply the full effect of her own rage, but without spending one of her daily uses of the ability. A dawncaller can't inspire fury in himself. Inspire fury is a mind-affecting ability.
Inspire Stamina
Starting at 5th level a dawncaller can use his music to refresh his tired allies. While he sings and for 1 minute per class level thereafter, the dawncaller and allies within 30 feet who can hear his song can ignore all the effects of fatigue and exhaustion. Affected allies can also choose to spend one hit dice as an action once.
Song of the Mountain
At 11th level a dawncaller can use this song to imbue himself and allies within 30 feet who can hear his song. When used provide one of the following benefits
Bonus = Bard Level divided by 4, rounded up.
Summits Strength:
Bonus to Strength, Strength Saving Throws, and Athletic Checks.
Landslide's Swiftness:
Bonus to Dexterity, Dexterity Saving Throws, and Acrobatic Checks.
Stone Skin:
Damage reduction equal to double the dawncaller's bonus.
Song of Warding
Beginning at 7th level, a dawncaller can sing this song to help protect an area from incursion by unwanted creatures. Dawncallers generally use this song to protect a goliath tribe's camp at night. The dawncaller must sing the song of warding for 5 minutes; when this time has elapsed, he creates an antipathy effect that lasts for 2 hours per class level. The Will save DC for a song of warding is 8 + proficiency bonus + dawncaller's Cha modifier. Song of warding is an enchantment (compulsion), mind-affecting ability.
Extra Attack
Beginning at 6th level extra attack allows you to make one additional attack when you take the Attack action. (You may also move between the two attacks).
Dark Before Dawn
Starting at 14th level, accustomed to watching over the tribe throughout the night, Dawncallers need only 6 hours of rest to gain the full effects of a long rest; their ever vigilant attitude also ensures they cannot be surprised while they are conscious, as well as providing a +5 to their initiative. Constant practice peering into the darkness unlocks a goliath's latent darkvision ability. Dawncallers can see in the dark out to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but is otherwise like normal sight, and dawncallers can function just fine with no light at all.
