Druid
Base Class: Druid

Druids of the circle of shadows have a deep connection with the shadow fell much like many druids have connections to the feywild. These connections allow the druids to manipulate their  shadow as well as the shadows around them.

Shadow summons

Starting at 2nd level you can transform your shadow into a creature. As an action, you can expend a use of your wild shape feature to summon a shadow beast instead of turning into a beast yourself.

The beast that you summon is a type of beast you can wildshape into and it appears in an empty space beside you as it forms from your shadow. The beast has the stats of the summoned creature with the following changes:

  • It is a monstrosity instead of a beast.
  • It appears with a number of temporary hit points equal to half your Druid level.
  • It gains Darkvision out to a range of 60ft unless it already has a longer range.
  • It has resistance to psychic damage, as well as bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage from non-magical sources.
  • It deals psychic damage in place of the damage it would normally deal.
  • Attacks against it have disadvantage whilst it is in dim light, and it is considered invisible whilst in darkness.
  • It can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. The shadow beast takes 5 force damage if it ends its turn inside an object.
  • It cannot be healed, however spells and effects can give it temporary hit points.
  • You take 5 psychic damage each time the shadow beast takes damage.

You have no shadow whilst the shadow beast is summoned. It lasts for one hour, until it is reduced to 0 hit points, you wild shape again, or until you dismiss it as a bonus action. When the shadow beast is ended through any of these means it flies back to you at a speed of 120ft, turning back into your shadow as soon as it reaches you.

It acts on your turn in combat. As a bonus action you can command it to take one of the Attack, Dash, Disengage, or Help actions otherwise it takes the dodge action. Whilst it's within 1 mile of you, you can command it telepathically (no action required by you), and as an action on your turn you can see through the shadow beast’s eyes and hear what it hears until the start of your next turn, gaining the benefits of any special senses that the shadow beast has. You are deaf and blind with regard to your own senses whilst using the senses of your shadow beast.

Circle Spells

Your mystical connection to the land infuses you with the ability to cast certain spells. At 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th level you gain access to circle spells connected to the shadowfell.

Once you gain access to a circle spell, you always have it prepared, and it doesn’t count against the number of spells you can prepare each day. If you gain access to a spell that doesn’t appear on the druid spell list, the spell is nonetheless a druid spell for you.
