Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of the Faithless is one made in solemn understanding that any fraternisation with divine beings only results in the pain of any mortals involved at the culmination of their Journey. Paladins who take this oath make it to themselves, and gain a sober resolution to live their lives following naught but their own conscience, gaining power by channelling their soul through mortal restrictions they place on their own lifestyle. Paladins who take this Oath tend to be those spurned, rejected or even betrayed by Gods they once held dear and divine.

RESTRICTIONS OF FAITHLESS POWER

Having no Deity to grant them divine power, Paladins who take the Oath of the Faithless have to swear to lifelong restrictions in order to extract as much divine energy from within their own souls as possible. These restrictions tend to be far more strict than that of a mere Tenet, and differ greatly between various Faithless. Some example restrictions are listed below, from a Paladin that once lost an Oath of the Crown in circumstances out of their control:

Fate Is a Fickle Mistress. Attempting to wrangle her in the service of a deity is what once destroyed me. I will divine no more.

Lie Only To Others. I sometimes bend or break the truth for my own gain, but being alone in my plight, I cannot make an enemy of myself. I deserve the truth from myself, always.

Never Again A Prisoner. I was captured and incarcerated once. Never again can I let that happen. Death before bondage.

Never Again A Parishioner. I have had my fill of gods. The one I served helped me not in my time of need. I shall treat them all in kind.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Godless Rebuke. When you are targeted by an attack from a creature you can see, you can use your reaction to consume a use of your Channel Divinity to impose disadvantage on all attacks the creature makes against you for 1 minute. The creature also has to make a Wisdom saving throw.

On a failed save, the creature takes damage equal to your paladin level every time it damages you for the duration of this ability.

Chain of the Untethered. As a bonus action, you can consume a use of your Channel Divinity to mark a creature hostile to you that you can see within 60 feet. On each turn for the next minute, including on the turn you use this feature, you can use half of your movement to teleport up to 60 feet to appear in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of your marked target. You can do so only 3 times before the mark dissipates.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

Oath of the Faithless Spells
Paladin Level Spells

9th

Aegis Ward

By 7th level, your devotion to yourself causes your body to create a protective ward that continually regenerates, protecting you from harm.

You gain a persistent amount of Temporary Hit Points equal to half your Paladin Level (rounded up) that regenerate at the start of each of your turns.

Harbinger

Starting at 15th level, your self-driven power drives your ability to harm your foes to new heights. At any moment when you are about to make a melee weapon or unarmed attack, using a bonus action, you call out to enemies and allies alike - declaring exactly when and where you are about to strike. If the attack hits, all the damage dealt as a result of that strike to any and all targets is doubled.

You can only use this feature once per turn, and have 2 total uses of this ability. You regain expended uses when you take a short or long rest.

If you miss, or instead attack a target other than the one you specified, Harbinger is wasted and a use consumed.

Damage Doubled using this feature is applied after all other damage-affecting features, including critical hits.

You cannot use this feature if you are unable to speak, or if speaking produces no sound.

Nirvana

At 20th level, you can assume the form of an enlightened being. Using your action, you undergo a transformation. For 1 hour, you gain the following benefits:

  • The temporary hit points you gain each turn from your Aegis Ward feature are doubled.
  • You can make one more attack whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.
  • Once per turn, you can deal additional radiant damage on an attack you make that hits equal to your Paladin Level.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
