Base Class: Monk
Monks of the Way of the Guiding Star look to the night sky with great reverence. They see the constellations above and see their own destiny among the stars. They use their ki to harness their own inner star and form starry eyed animal guides who both fight with them and provide comfort in trying times.
Star Companion
At 3rd level, your mastery of ki allows you to harness your inner star and manifest it. On your turn, you can use your bonus action to summon your star companion in a space within 5 feet of you. The star companion's size can be medium or smaller, although it cannot be mounted. You determine the animal form it takes and its appearance, however its statistics remain the same.
Once you create your companion, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest or spend 2 ki points. You can only have one star companion at a time and cannot summon another while yours is present.
The star companion is a magical object. Regardless of size, the companion shared your speed, has an AC of 10 + your Proficiency Bonus and a number of hit points equal to five times your monk level. It is immune to poison damage, psychic damage and all conditions. If it is forced to make an ability check or saving throw, treat all its ability scores as your own. It disappears if it is reduced to 0 hit points, you are rendered unconscious or dismiss it (no action required). As a bonus action, you can issue your star companion one of the following commands, as a part of the same bonus action you can direct it to move.
- You can command your companion to take the help action.
- When you take the attack action with an unarmed strike or a monk weapon, you can command your companion to make an unarmed strike as if you were making the attack. Additionally, when you use Flurry of Blows both unarmed strikes may come from your companion.
- Immediately after you take the attack action with an unarmed strike or a monk weapon, you can spend 1 ki point to have your companion use the shove action.
Incandescence
Beginning at 6th level, you become more in tune with your inner star allowing you and your star companion to shine brighter together. When you use your Step of the Wind and your companion is within 5 feet of you, it can burn as bright as the sun. Any hostile creature within 15 feet must make a constitution saving throw against your ki save DC or be blinded until the start of your next turn.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. While you have no uses available, you can spend 1 additional ki point when you activate Step of the Wind to use this feature again.
Luminous Nature
At 11th level, you and your star companion have a warm, comforting glow that calms those around you. As a bonus action, you can spend 2 ki points to give yourself and your companion a luminous aura. This aura extends 10 feet from you and your companion in every direction but not through total cover. It lasts for 1 minute, until your incapacitated, or dismiss it (no action required).
While your aura is active, you and any allied creatures within the aura cannot be charmed or frightened.
Stellar Evolution
Your inner star has never shone brighter and the feeling of fulfillment is immense burns in your core. Beginning at 17th level, as an action, you can spend 10 ki points to either collapse or detonate your star companion.
Collapse. The star companion shines brightly before dimming and collapsing in on itself creating a black hole. Each creature within 30 feet must make a strength saving throw against your ki save DC. A target is pulled straight toward the companion, takes 10d10 force damage and is knocked prone on a failed save, or knocked prone and takes half as much damage on a successful one. If a creature is unable to pulled closer, such as behind a structure providing full cover, they automatically succeed the save.
Detonate. The star companion begins to shine brightly, burning furiously with with the glorious rage of a sun before it explodes in radiant light. Each creature within 30 feet must make a constitution saving throw against your ki save DC. A target is blinded for one hour and takes 10d10 radiant damage on a failed save, or takes half as much damage and is not blinded on a successful one.
