Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

You have a knack for magic, but the temperament for hours of study or practice. Could you have been a sorcerer? A wizard? A bard? Probably, but that's not your style. You're a barbarian. You're big, strong, and angry. Fortunately, being big, strong, and angry has turned out to be an adequate substitute for study and practice, since you've learned to channel your magic through your anger and rage. Unfortunately, casting anything but the most basic spells isn't quite as easy when you're calm and collected as it is when you're in the midst of a bloodthirsty rampage.

Spellcasting

Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, your unbridled rage is enough to scare even the weave into submission, granting you the ability to cast spells. See Spells Rules for the general rules of spellcasting and the Spells Listing for the sorcerer spell list.

Cantrips

You learn two cantrips of your choice from the sorcerer spell list. You learn another sorcerer cantrip of your choice at 10th level.

Spell Slots

The Arcane Fury Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your sorcerer spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.

For example, if you know the 1st-level spell charm person and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast charm person using either slot.

Spells Known of 1st-Level and Higher

You know three 1st-level sorcerer spells of your choice.

The Spells Known column of the Arcane Fury Spellcasting table shows when you learn more sorcerer spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.

Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the sorcerer spells you know with another spell of your choice from the sorcerer spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots.

Spellcasting Ability

Constitution is your spellcasting ability for your sorcerer spells, since you learn your spells through stubborn force of will and sheer hutzpah. You use your Constitution whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Constitution modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a sorcerer spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier

Rage Casting

At 3rd level, you gained access to sorcerer spells. However, due to your lack of training in proper spellcasting, your form is raw and chaotic and only works right when you stop thinking so hard about it.

  • You can cast spells and cantrips gained from this subclass while raging, but can only cast cantrips gained from this subclass while not.
  • You can add your Rage Damage to your spell damage while raging.
  • You can use your Reckless Attack ability when casting a spell or cantrip gained from this subclass.
  • You can use any melee weapon as a spellcasting focus for spells and cantrips gained from this subclass.

Arcane Volatility

Beginning at 6th level, your attunement to the magical forces around you encourages it to lash out in anger with you. You can cast a cantrip gained from this subclass as your second attack so long as you're in a rage and your first attack hits your target.

Improved Arcane Volatility

Beginning at 10th level, you can stoke the flames of agitation within the magic that suffuses your body, encouraging it to strike out even harder. You can cast a spell gained from this subclass as your second attack so long as you're in a rage and your first attack hits your target. This ability can be used a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (Minimum of 1). Uses are regained at the end of a long rest.

Self-Destruct

Starting at 14th level, your habit of forcing magical energy through your body with abandon has turned you into a magical time bomb. When you hit 0 hit points, the magic you've forced into yourself erupts in a spectacular fashion, casting a random Area of Effect spell centered on, but not affecting, you. This spell is cast at 3rd level and does not consume a spell slot. Roll 1d6 to determine the spell that is cast. At 19th level, this die changes to 1d8 and the resulting spell is cast at 4th level.

This feature can only be used once per long rest.
