Base Class: Monk

Way of the Bestial Soul monks commune with animals they encounter to gain a boon which they use to mark themselves.  Attuning to these ritual markings allows the monk to use abilities of the animal that the mark represents.

Bestial Empathy

You gain proficiency in animal handling if you did not already have it.

You may cast speak with animals once with out components once, you regain this ability after completing a short or long rest.

Totemic Emblem

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can make a DC 15 Charisma (Persuasion) check to request a boon from a creature with whom you can communicate.  The boon may be shed fur, a dropped feather, a clip of claw, or something similar.  The boon may be ground into ceremonial ink which you can use to tattoo an emblem of the animal onto your skin as part of an hour long ritual.  The tattoo is permanent and should be noted on your character sheet, including the type of animal, the animal's CR, and where the tattoo is located.

You may attune to the emblem of any creature with a CR of up to 1/4 of your Monk level as if it were a magic item.  When attuned, you may use 1 Ki point to gain a single trait from that animal's stat block for 6 seconds.  You may use multiple traits simultaneously, including traits from multiple animals, so long as they are different traits.  You may not use the movement types of two different animals at the same time.

  • Attacks (including attack type, reach, to hit bonus, damage dice, damage bonus, and damage type)

At level 6, you may attune to two emblems per attunement slot.

At level 11, you may attune to three emblems per attunement slot.

At level 17, you may attune to four emblems per attunement slot.

Primal Sensitivity

At 6th level, you may take ten minutes to perform a ritual allowing you to use the senses from one emblem to which you are attuned. You will retain these senses until you complete a long rest or use the Totemic Emblem ability to acquire senses from a different emblem.

Once per long rest as an action, you can cast each of the following spells: beast bond and beast sense

Channel Essence

Beginning at 11th level, you may perform at 10 minute ritual to gain one ability score of an animal whose emblem you have attuned to.  You retain this ability score until you complete a long rest or replace the ability score using your Totemic Emblem ability.

Sympathetic Movement

At 17th level, you may take ten minutes to perform a ritual allowing you to use the movement type(s) and speed(s) from one animal's emblem to which you are attuned. You will retain these abilities until you complete a long rest or use the Totemic Emblem ability to acquire movement abilities from a different emblem.
