Base Class: Monk
The Way of Desperation uses a unusual style compared to most Monk subclasses. Primarily based around management of Ki Points, self injury and single armed combat, it can be both a blessing and curse depending on the scenario.
Broken Chakra Energies
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level you gain the ability to channel your corrupted Ki into either yourself, or your opponents.
- When you successfully damage a enemy with a attack from Flurry of Blows, you can spend 1 Additional Ki point to force the opponent to succeed a Wisdom saving throw or else they take 1D10 Force damage and are thrown back 15 feet away from you.
- As a bonus action, you can drive your fingers into one of your own Chakra points. You take 1D4 Necrotic damage and regain Ki points equal to half the damage roll, rounding up. You can only use this ability twice before you have to take a long rest.
- As a reaction to a enemy's movement within 1 feet of you, you can spend a Ki Point to make a single unarmed attack against that enemy. If it successfully does damage, that enemy must succeed a Dexterity saving throw or else be knocked prone and take a additional 1D4 Force damage.
Practice from Pain
At 6th Level you learn more about your broken body, you have discovered how to manipulate and control your desecrated Ki in a more efficient way. You regain 1 additional Ki point from the "Broken Chakra Energies" class feature. At 8th Level you gain 2 additional Ki points from this ability. At 13th level you gain 3 additional Ki points from this ability.
In addition you can now see the latent Ki auras from most living creatures within 50 feet. The colour and intensity of their auras is determined by their backstory, alignment and religious affiliation.
Shattering Finger
At level 11, your body draws on the memory of a horrific defeat to attempt to replicate the very action that broke you in the first place.
As a action, you can make a single unarmed attack against a enemy. If you hit you can spend 3 Ki points to channel your energy directly into one of your opponent's Chakra points. The enemy makes a Constitution saving throw. If it fails, it takes 8D8 Necrotic damage and can't talk or make verbal noises for 5 Minutes. If it succeeds it takes 4D8 Necrotic damage.
In addition, all your unarmed attacks can deal Slashing damage instead of Bludgeoning damage if you chose so.
Spirit Obliteration Wave
At level 17 you gain access to the ultimate corruption within your Chakra. As a action you can spend 15 Ki points to blast a wave of your malformed energies at a creature within 40 feet and visible to you. The target is enveloped in energy and is lifted 10 feet directly in the air. The target then makes a Wisdom saving throw at disadvantage. If it fails, it is reduced to 0 hit points and the energy around them explodes, dealing a further 2D20 Necrotic damage to all creatures within 20 feet of the target, they are also Frightened. If it succeeds, it takes 10D10 Necrotic damage and drops to the floor dealing a further 1D4 Force damage. Once this is used, you cannot use it again until you complete 2 long rests and spend 2 hours of that meditating.
