Base Class: Monk
Bright flashes of white light streak across the sky. From a distance, a beautiful show of dancing beams of energy flowing across the horizon. What people don't notice though is that with an instantaneous crack, lighting strikes the ground destroying anything in its wake.
A monk who follows The Way of the Vivid Lightning learns to move and flow like lightning itself. They learn to mold and shape ki to resemble lightning in order to obtain self states that increase a monk's speed, reflexes, and destructive force.
Lightning Orb
Beginning at 3rd level when choosing this tradition, you can focus your ki into orbs of electricity. The color of the electricity depends on the color of ones own ki. When you make contract on an opponent your ki creates small orbs that float around your head. You can create up to 4 orbs of electricity. You can spend 2 ki points to discharge the orbs as a bonus action. You can only use this feature once you have the maximum amount of orbs. When you make contact with your next attack the orbs add 4d6 damage. If the orbs are not discharged within one minutes the ki disperses.
The amount of orbs you can create along with the amount of orbs goes up with your level, 5th (5 orbs 5d6), 9th (6 orbs 6d6), 13th (7 orbs 7d6), and 17th (8 orbs 8d6) levels.
Dancing Lightning
At 6th level, you can begin to feel lightning coursing through your body. Bolts of energy dance across your arms and legs and you feel a strong sense to move. When you spend 2 ki points as an action you can cover your entire body in electrified ki for one minute. When activated your movement speed increases by 5 feet for the duration. When a creature hits you with an attack they take 5 lightning damage.
For every 2 ki points more that you put into the ability the speed bonus and damage both increase by 5.
Control the Storm
The monk learns how to harness the power of lightning through rigorous training and meditation. By harnessing their own ki they can fire off a blast of lightning at their targets. Once per short rest the monk can cast Lightning bolt without the use of components.
One with the Storm
Upon reaching 17th level, you’ve gained the knowledge and skill to be fully recognized as the embodiment of a lightning storm. Spending 6 ki points as a bonus actions you automatically activate Lighting Orb (Max Orbs) Dancing Lightning, and you gain the following benefits:
Flash Step: Your movement speed increase by 15 feet (stacks with Dancing Lightning) and you do not activate a creatures attack of opportunity.
Devastating Storm: Whenever you use the Extra Attack feature to attack twice, you can instead attack three times. Your unarmed strikes also double your damage die becoming 2d10 and your reach is now 10 feet rather than 5.
This ability can stay activated for as long as the user needs, but after 30 seconds (5 rounds) of use the user takes 1 level of exhaustion. For every 30 seconds after that the user keeps gaining levels of exhaustion until they reach 5 levels of exhaustion. Once level 5 is reached the character collapses to the ground in a state of unconsciousness. This state ends early if you are incapacitated or die.
