Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

This Beast Master is inspired partially by the Beast Conclave Archetype, and is meant to replace the Beast Master in the PHB.

Beast Companion

At 3rd level, you magically call forth a Beast Companion or have finally gained a magical bond with a Beast making it your companion. Your experience as a Ranger limits what beasts you can train as your companion. At level 3 the beast must be CR 1/2 or lower and medium or smaller, at level 5 the beast can be large or smaller, at level 7 the beast can be CR 1 or lower, at level 11 the beast can be CR 2 or lower, and at level 15 the beast can be size Huge or smaller.

Your companion loses it's multiattack feature if it has one, but adds your proficiency bouns to it's AC, attack rolls, and damage rolls, as well as to any saving throws and skills it's proficient in. It's hit point maximum equals the hit point number in it's stat block or four times your ranger level, whichever is higher. Like any creature, it can spend Hit Dice during a short rest to regain hit points.

The companion obeys your commands as best it can. It takes it's turn on your initiative, and you determine it's actions, decisions, attitudes and so on. If you are incapacitated or absent, your companion acts on it's own.

You can only have one beast companion at a time. Creating a magical bond with a new companion takes 8 hours and 50gp worth of rare herbs. If a previous companion is revived while you have a new companion, your current companion leaves and is replaced by the revived companion.

Animal Friend

At 5th level, your connection and understanding of beasts becomes even deeper. You gain advantage on all animal handling and persausion checks made to calm or convince beasts. Additionally, when you see a creature make a melee attack against your companion, you can use your reaction to make an attack against that creature.

We Hunt As One

At 7th level, you form a more instinctual bond with your companion. Your companions attacks now count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage. When your companion sees a creature make a melee attack against you, it can use it's reaction to make an attack against that creature.

Additionally, you always sense what direction your companion is in and it's distance from you(in miles) while they are within 5 miles of you. They can detect you in the same way.

Bestial Flurry

Starting at 11th level, when you command your beast companion to take the Attack action, the beast can make two attacks. The number of attacks increases to three when you reach 15th level in this class.

Soul Bond

At 15th level, your Companion's Bond reaches it's strongest. You and your companion gain the following benefits:

  • While on the same plane, you and your Companion can communicate telepathically, and as long as your are both willing, one of you can spend an action to see and/or hear through the senses of the other(you can only see through one pair of eyes at a time and hear through one pair of ears at a time).
  • When you cast a spell targeting yourself, you can also affect your companion with the spell, if they are within 30 feet of you.

Additionally, your companion's natural lifespan increases to match your own. If your companion has a longer life span, yours extends to match it's lifespan instead.
