Base Class: Monk
The ever-flowing river enriching the land with it's ceaseless flow. An unbroken flow of energy from the mountains to the sea, simultaneously calm and furious, with the power to give life and to take it away, unstoppable and unrelenting the essence of the river. It is the power of the river from which this martial style draws it's forms and power. A budding style created and perfected by Sifu Gereon of the Orion Peak Monastery and his brother Sifu Christoph. This form is not yet widely practiced but its effectiveness can easily be seen by those who face its practitioners.
"A river cannot be punched, it cannot be kicked. One can try to stand against a river but they will find it cannot be opposed. One may try to outlast a river but they will find it will not cease. Single minded in direction of force yet adaptive and winding in path. To be like the river is to be totally and completely unstoppable with the power to shape the very land around it." Sifu Gereon of the Orion Peak Monastery.
Torrent of Blows
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, when you harness your ki to attack you can empower your blows with additional effects. When you hit a creature for the first time each turn with one of the attacks granted by your Flurry of Blows you can spend a ki point to cause one of the following effects.
- Allies within 5ft gain 1d4 + your Wisdom modifier health. This die changes as you gain monk levels, as shown in the Martial Arts column of the Monk table.
- Allies within 5ft of you may use their reaction to immediately move half their speed rounded down without provoking opportunity attacks.
- The attack deals an additional 1d4 + your Wisdom modifier radiant damage. This die changes as you gain monk levels, as shown in the Martial Arts column of the Monk table.
Rapid Dash
Starting at 6th level, as a bonus action you can spend a ki point to gain a massive burst of speed. When you use this ability move 15 feet in a straight line toward an enemy or an ally. This movement must end on a space within 5 feet of an enemy or an ally. Additionally immediately after moving as part of this bonus action you can choose one of the following effects.
- Spend one ki to use Flurry of Blows.
- Spend one ki to use Patient Defense.
- Give an ally the ability to use Step of the Wind until the end of their next turn.
Unyeilding Flow
You do not suffer the negative effects of difficult terrain.
River's Rejuvination
Starting at 11th level when an ally is attacked or makes a saving throw, before any damage is dealt, you can use a reaction and spend 2 ki points to grant them a rejuvenating aura until the start of their next turn. While this aura is active, if that ally would be reduced to 0 hit points they are instead restored to one half of their maximum hitpoints rounded down.
If they are not reduced to 0 hitpoints by the start of their next turn you regain 2 ki points. This effect can only be active on one ally at a time.
If any ally is reduced to 0 hitpoints and brought back up to half hitpoints with this ability, it cannot be used again until you complete a long rest.
Whirlpool Strike
Upon reaching 17th level you gain the ability to unleash a whirlpool strike. As an action you can spend 3 ki points to quickly use Rapid Dash five times. Each Rapid Dash must target a different ally or enemy and never the same ally or enemy twice. If you do not have a valid target for a Rapid Dash before you have used all five Rapid Dashes, the ability ends. Each time you Rapid Dash using this ability you can spend ki to gain additional effects as normal.
You cannot use this ability again until you have completed a long rest.
