Base Class: Artificer

You were placed in danger in your youth, either you were bullied or you ended up in a war.  When you had some time you started working on a way to protect yourself.  You have created a special field generator that is tuned to surround you and provide you with protection.  This generator has been fashioned into a belt with a concealed pocket for your artificer’s tools.  As you improve in levels, you modify your generator to provide more defenses.

Field Generator

Starting At 3rd level, you create a field generator in the shape of a belt.  This is a non magic item and does not prevent you from wearing a magical belt.  Your artificers tools are stored in a concealed pocket within the belt that provides easy access to them for purposes of your spellcasting focus.

Defensive Field

Starting at 3rd level, you modify your Field Generator to provide a bonus to your armor class.  You gain a bonus to your armor class equal to double your proficiency bonus.  This field floats about 6 inches outside your normal form and therefore stacks with worn armor.

Resistive Field

Starting At 3rd level, you can modify your Field Generator to provide resistance to certain types of damage.  As a bonus action you can modify your Field Generator to grant you resistance to one of the following damage types: Fire, cold, lightning, acid, thunder. Radiant, necrotic, poison or force.  You can modify your Field Generator with a number of resistances equal to your proficiency bonus, but each requires it’s own bonus action.  Once modified your Field Generator holds the modifications until you modify it again.  These resistances are a persistent function.  

Sparking Field

Starting at 5th level, you weaponize your Field Generator. Whenever you are attacked by an enemy within 5 feet, you can use a reaction to cause your Field Generator to deal lightning Damage to your attacker.  Your attacker takes double your proficiency bonus in lightning damage.  

Expanding Field

Starting at 9th level, as an action, you can modify your Field Generator to push your defensive field out from you.  All creatures are pushed 5’ away from you for every 2 points of proficiency bonus that you have.  After this action your field returns to its normal size and abilities.  You can use this a number of times per short rest equal to your proficiency bonus.

Chaos Field

Starting at 15th level, you modify your Field Generator to provide a field of chaotic energy that causes their attacks to miss.  When enemies attack you they have disadvantage on their attacks.
