Base Class: Barbarian
Through years of mental training, some barbarians learn to master their rage, harnessing it while maintaining a steely calm. They channel their inner might using the wisdom of the natural world, performing feats of magic even in the midst of heir constrained fury. This path is difficult for some, as it requires the barbarian to demonstrate self control, never fully giving in to their madness. Barbarians who follow this path may be polite, gentle, even well mannered on and off battlefield. If it can be mastered, this path grants those who walk it a power previously thought impossible by contemporaries of "civilized" society.
Spellcasting
When you reach 3rd level, you internalize your rage and channel it into spellcasting. See chapter 10 of the Player's Handbook for the general rules of spellcasting and chapter 11 for the druid spell list.
Cantrips: you learn two cantrips of your choice from the Druid spell list. You learn an additional Druid cantrip of your choice at 10th level.
Spell Slots: The Tranquil Fury Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell's level or higher. You regain all extended spell slots when you finish a long rest. For example, if you prepare the 1st level spell ENTANGLE and have a 1st level and a 2nd level spell slot available, you can cast ENTANGLE using either slot.
Preparing and Casting Spells: The Tranquil Fury table shows how many spell slots do you have to cast your Druid spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these druid spells, you must expend a slot of the spell's level or higher. You regain all extended spell slots when you finish a long rest. You prepare the list of Druid spells that are available for you to cast, choosing from conjuration and divination spells on the Druid spell list. When you do so, choose a number of Druid spells equal to your Wisdom modifier + one-third of your barbarian level, rounded down (minimum of one spell). The spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For example, if you are a 7th level barbarian, you have four 1st level and two 2nd level spell slots. With a wisdom of 16, your list of prepared spells can include five spells of 1st or 2nd level, in any combination. As you prepare the 1st level spell ENTANGLE, you can cast it using a 1st or 2nd level slot. Casting the spell doesn't remove it from your list of prepared spells. You can also change your list of prepared spells when you finish a long rest. Preparing a new list of Druid spells requires time spent in meditation: at least 1 minute per spell level for each spell on your list.
Spellcasting Ability: Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your Druid spells, since your magic is born from a bond with the natural world and ancient druidic arts. You use your Wisdom whenever a spell refers your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your wisdom modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a druid spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.
Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier
Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier
Ritual Casting: You can cast a druid spell as a ritual if that spell has the ritual tag and you have the spell prepared.
Zen Rage
Controlling your rage has drastically changed how you use it. Beginning at 3rd level, entering rage now grants the following benefits if you aren't wearing heavy armor, replacing the benefits of your Rage feature:
- You have advantage on Dexterity checks and Dexterity saving throws.
- When you make a melee attack using Dexterity, you gain a bonus to the damage roll that increases as you gain levels as a barbarian, as shown in the Rage Damage column of the Barbarian table.
- You have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.
All Barbarian Features that are affected by Strength are instead affected by Dexterity.
Tempered Blows
By 6th level, you have trained yourself to hold back, dealing a blow to knock your enemy off balance rather than causing further damage. You can now stun a foe instead of dealing rage damage. when you make a melee attack while raging the target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Dexterity modifier) or be stunned until the end of your next turn. This can be attempted only once per turn and only a number of times equal to your Dexterity modifier. You must finish a long rest to regain uses of Tempered Blows.
Wisdom of the Ancients
Starting at 10th level, you have mastered spellcasting while raging, and found some interesting results. You can now add your rage damage bonus to your spell damage.
Tranquil Fury
Your self-discipline has seen you through, hardening you to nearly all threats. Beginning at 14th level, you gain the following benefits while raging without wearing heavy armor:
- You receive temporary hit points equal to your barbarian level + your Constitution modifier
- You have resistance to damage from spells
