Base Class: Rogue
Long ago there was a member of the Summer Court who betrayed his Queen. His name was Dubh Catha, the Dark Crow. He was not the first fey to commit such a crime, nor the last, but he was the only one who ever managed to enrage her so. The Queen banished Dubh Catha, and his whole house with him, from the Seelie Court. Then she cursed them and their descendants so they may never see the light again. If it were up to the Faerie Queen, they would never look upon anything beautiful again.
The Dark Crow and his house quickly found that they could no longer stand the light, that it could kill them, if they were not careful. They retreated below ground. They took on undesirable trades to support themselves. They became the dubh sith, the Darklings.
Throughout time Dubh Catha and his people became to large to dwell underground. They seemed their own home. In an attempt to have free lives Dubh took his people into the Shadow Plane. This did not sit well with the current ruler the Raven Queen. More so that Dubh was now being called by his followers The Crow King. The Crow King and his people could freely live in the Shadowfey without fear of being exposed to sunlight. Their population expanding and causing tension with the Shadar Kai and their Raven Queen.
Although most rogues tend to be driven by greed and serving themselves, you use your gifts in service to the Crow King. You are an emissary from the court of Crows, led by Dubh Catha or The Dark Crow. The King has gifted special abilities only available to his most elite warriors. Indebted to his service you have access to dark magic and spells. The Crow King acts similarly to a Warlock Patron.
A Little Feathered Friend
At 3rd level the Crow King has noticed your deeds and has bestowed you a Crow ally. The Crow is an extension of the Kings magic and shares it's hold on the material plane through you. You and your crow can also telepathically communicate as long as you are on the same plane. You gain the ability to cast Find Familiars. You may only cast this spell as a ritual. The only form your familiar takes is a crow. You can only perform this once per long rest.
The Crow uses the same stats and abilities as the Owl in the MM. Your Crow has 1d4+1 HP and receives 1 hit die per level. your crow shares its AC with you. The Crow has its own actions and its own turns. As long as your Crow is alive it can act as a focus for your spells if it is within 10ft of you. If your crow reaches 0 hp you can share your hp with it. You can use your bonus action to spend an amount of hit die equal to your constitution modifier (minimum of 1) to heal your crow. This ability can not be used in reverse. This is the only way to heal your crow, spells and potions have no effect. You regain all spent hit die after a long rest.
If your crow reaches 0 hp or is incapacitated your crow vanishes from the current plane of existence. In order to summon your crow again you must cast Find Familiar.
Crow vision: You can use your bonus action to see your crow's point of view. Doing so currently leaves you blinded and deafened. Any creature hidden from view is now revealed if the Crow can see the target. You can end this at any point.
Spellcasting
When you reach 3rd level, you gain the ability to cast spells. See Spells Rules for the general rules of spellcasting and the Spells Listing for the warlock spell list.
Cantrips
You learn three cantrips: mage hand and two other cantrips of your choice from the warlock spell list. You learn another warlock cantrip of your choice at 10th level.
Spell Slots
The Arcane Trickster Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your warlock spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.
For example, if you know the 1st-level spell charm person and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast charm person using either slot.
Spells Known of 1st-Level and Higher
You know three 1st-level warlock spells of your choice, two of which you must choose from the evocation and illusion spells on the warlock spell list.
The Spells Known column of the Arcane Trickster Spellcasting table shows when you learn more warlock spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be an evocation or illusion spell of your choice, and must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.
The spells you learn at 8th, 14th, and 20th level can come from any school of magic.
Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the warlock spells you know with another spell of your choice from the warlock spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots, and it must be an evocation or illusion spell, unless you’re replacing the spell you gained at 3rd, 8th, 14th, or 20th level from any school of magic.
Spellcasting Ability
Charisma is your spellcasting ability for your warlock spells, since their power derives from the influence upon which you manipulate . You use your Charisma whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Charisma modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a warlock spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.
Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier
Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier

Crow Mimicry
Starting at 3rd level you can cast any spell that has the range of self or touch through your crow. Also the Crow can recite any spell's verbal component for the player if the player is unable; underwater, gagged, etc. Your crow must be within 10ft of you to say the verbal components.
Crow Legerdemain
Starting at 3rd level, when you cast mage hand, you can make your crow invisible, and you can perform the following additional tasks with it:
- You can stow one object the hand is holding in a container worn or carried by another creature.
- You can retrieve an object in a container worn or carried by another creature.
- You can use thieves’ tools to pick locks and disarm traps at range.
You can perform one of these tasks without being noticed by a creature if you succeed on a Dexterity Sleight of Hand check contested by the creature’s Wisdom Perception check.
In addition, you can use the bonus action granted by your Cunning Action to control your crow.
Lookout above you!
Overtime your crow has grown an undying trust to you. Your crow is willing to risk its life in order to save you.
Starting at 9th level your crow gains the ability to distract a target. You can also use your Cunning action to distract a target of your choice within 5ft of your crow. Any ally (including your own) attacks on that target has advantage until the start of your next turn.
Additionally if an enemy attempts to target you with an attack or a spell your crow can use its reaction to impose disadvantage on the enemy. You crow must be within 5ft of the enemy. If it is an attack the enemy must make it with disadvantage. If the spell requires you to make a saving throw the caster must first perform a concentration check to maintain the spell. If the caster fails the spell is negated with no effects.
Wacka Flocka Feathers
Your magic as well as the magic emanating from your crow has merged into one.
Starting at level 13 you can use your bonus action to disappear into a swirl of feathers. You can teleport 30ft away to an unoccupied space of your choice that you can see. You can use this ability equal to the amount of your charisma modifier. You regain all uses after a long rest.
Big Bird
Your crow has been granted the highest blessing from the Crow King. It now has the ability to take shape into one of the King's Ancient Deep Crows.
At level 17 you and your crow have developed a significant bond. Your crow can now take on the shape of an Ancient Deep Crow, it is now considered large and can be used as a mount by you. Your crow uses the Ancient Deep Crow stat sheet in the MM. When this ability is used your crow's max and current hp is doubled. For example if your crow was 15/20 hp it would now be 30/40. If your crow reaches 0 hp in this form it is reverted back to its original from and is at 1 hp. Your crow can maintain this effect for a number of hours equal to your charisma modifier multiplied by 2. You can only use this ability once per long rest.

Posted Jul 29, 2022you should try to homebrew your own content instead of copy and pasting the arcane trickster features and changing a few things. I like the idea though/

Posted Mar 31, 2022After you set up your spellcasting ability you can go in and further edit it to choose, how fast they learn higher level spells, what ability score spells use, and even choose what class to select your spells from. If you really want to get into it you can make a custom list by adding each spell individually. Hope this helps.

Posted Mar 30, 2022Where you put your class abilities you need to make an ability just titled "Spellcasting". See where I have one at level 3? It's easiest to just copy and paste from one of the official dnd subclasses then just edit the text to fit your own homebrew.

Posted Mar 29, 2022If you don't mind helping a newbie homebrewer, how do I make my rogue subclass cast spells? I have the "Can Cast Spells" set to "yes" and it's still not letting my subclass cast >_<
